Unpopular question, perhaps a stupid thought, but...

Should we send Devin Funchess to the practice squad?  Right now, it's painstaking to watch his non productivity.  The main reason of course being, we literally have zero receiving production for most of the game.  Of course that's not to say Ted Ginn and Bersin made no contribution because they obviously have.  However, when you draft a guy in the second round (someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe we traded up for him), you expect him to make some contribution, even this early in the season.  Here we are, dying for a receiver to step up, with the position practically begging for anybody to be the starter, yet Funchess is doing absolutely nothing for all intents and purposes.

All I'm saying is if he's not ready to the point of playing at least 20% of offensive snaps, with a squad where anybody could be our starter, then maybe he needs to be on the practice squad to give another guy a chance who might be more prepared to play.  By my count, we only looked his way two times yesterday.  One pass was batted away, and he dropped a semi-difficult pass in the endzone.

Putting a rookie second round draft pick on the practice squad would be the same as just cutting him, that's not at all in play.

Oh yeah, I forgot teams could pick guys up off your practice squad I believe. (Though I wonder if they have to give us compensation if that were to happen.)

In that case, he needs to be inactive for a while or something.

Cut him for who exactly?   You guys need to face facts and that is nobody is going to come in and be the number one wide out this week or for that matter this season.   We ain't rolling like that.  It's going to be by committee this year until KB gets back and the Don gets time to beef up the group.   Let it go.

    • Bradberry is the better CB and I dont think its too close. They should have played together
    • I was as big of a fan of Josh as anyone and was pissed about that situation then and still am today. But Bradberry was also a legit #1 corner for a while here, not as flashy as Josh or as mentioned before in this thread not at the level of Josh's peak, but he was more consistent and just a quiet stud. Like Gamble was. Was just correcting the post from before about how the draft was completely wasted trying to replace him, which is a notion I just disagree with. Bradberry was a great pick and legit #1 corner. As I already posted, the rest of the draft was an absolute disaster but we did come away with a Josh replacement. And yeah it should've been both but I'm just evaluating the moves after the Josh fiasco.   Also worth noting we did have Bene who was coming off 2 incredible seasons before breaking his leg late in 2015. I don't think anyone expected him to fall off nearly as much as he did following that injury. If he had gotten back to that level of play, Bradberry on the outside with him in the slot would be a decent pair to bolster a corner group. Those 2 plus a veteran outside CB signing after the Josh fiasco would've been a reasonably good group. But Bene couldn't get his conditioning back and sucked and DG was confident in 3 rookies which was dumb as hell.
