Goodbye Iggles, Hello Colts!

Alright, we've got Philadelphia out of the way and the Indianapolis Colts are headed to Charlotte. The Colts are in the midst of a dumpster fire season with a coach's job on the line and Andrew Luck playing his worst football since junior high school. What do you think of this week's match up?

I think the Colts are going to be dangerous. It's the wounded animal thing, they are hurting and someone is going to jump up and play lights out. Pagano is just about to be thrown on the junk heap, and he has been a good coach in the past. Luck's been terrible, but he is a darn good quarterback. They have offensive talent, but aren't getting much out of it. My worry is that two out of three of those will mystically show up and give us the scare of the season.

Any thoughts on this game since we've beaten the Eagles and Greg Hardy to death already?

Im normally more a pessimist,  when it comes to sports. It's probably ingrained from years of disappointment. However, I'm  very confident in this game. We've scored 27 points,  back to back weeks against Seattle and Philly. I think we will pound the Colts soft defense and if Luck continues his trend of turning it over,  we will run away with this game.

For the last 20 years or so that "wounded animal" narrative would fit nicely.

This aint your daddy's Panthers.  The only wounded animals around weren't wounded when they got here.

This team doesn't have fear, they instill it in others.  If Luck's shoulder hurts now, 60 minutes against the Panthers is not going to help it any.

What is that saying... on any given Monday?

No NFL team should be taken lightly.

Having said that, I'd like to see the Panthers put the Colts out of their misery sooner rather than later.

Slow and steady may win the race, but it makes for some nail biters in the fourth quarter.  For once I'd like to sit back in the last quarter and enjoy the experience of the Panthers completely decimating the competition.

It's Dolts, not Colts. Get it right! :D

This is going to be one of those games where our D needs to be ready for anything. And I do mean anything. There's a QB who doesn't always stay in the pocket but isn't prone to running with the ball either. Not a Wilson or Ryan. But then let's not forget this:

This is the NFL. Come bringing it.

With that said... this feels like a year where we're defying the odds and defeating the superstitions.

NFC South has never been won by the same team two years in a row: Check

Carolina can't win in Seattle: Check

Can't win the game after the bye: Done

Next? Destroying the Andrew Luck vs Cam Newton debate.

I fear the paradox, i.e. we beat the teams we're worried about but lose to the ones we're certain we can beat.

Longtime Panther fans know this feeling.

    • From Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/nutshellsportz.bsky.social/post/3mo3rkrcezs2e  A look at Run Threat Rate across the NFL Run Threat Rate is the percentage of plays where a team either runs the ball or uses play action. This compares each team’s rate when leading or tied versus when trailing to show how much they abandon the run when playing from behind.
    • That's the current dilemma on both parties at the moment. If Ickey comes back too soon, he won't be 100% and his play will suffer. Leading to a potential decrease in his contract. If Ickey is unable to play and sits the entire 2026 season, his contract will still take the same hit since it tells all 32 team that he is not fully recovered. On the Panthers side, I'm sure they would want to keep Ickey if he is fully recovered but he is obviously in a contract year. They don't want to re-sign him to a massive deal since it be too risky and they know if Ickey is able to return to form.  Best case scenario, the Panthers wants to offer Ickey a 1-2 year heavily incentive based prove it deal. However, Ickey would most likely decline the offer and test the market as  another team can come in and offer Ickey a better deal if they are desperate enough for O-line help.
    • They have been giving him a lot of snaps at RT to give TMo some relief in camp. I think that will continue for the time being.
