For people just starting, I think it's important to plan out perks so you know what your SPECIAL attributes will need to be.

Similar in gameplay.  Lots of side quests, similar styles (obviously, Bethesda RPG).  Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games of all time, and I played/loved Skyrim/Oblivion as well.

 

As for what to expect, kinda will sound weird the way I describe it I think?  Combine Mad Max, the Walking Dead, 1950s Americana, and some futuristic poo into an Elder Scrolls world and there you have it. Basically, you'll spend hours on hours finding loot, doing a ton of side quests, and shooting giant radiated monsters/people while WWII era music plays.
