So...the Titans, other than being in the worst division in the NFL

I'll call it Panthers 28, Titans 17.

I'm really hoping we get a strong lead (3 scores) early in the game and can spell a lot of our vets, giving more reps to CAP, Tre, Daryl Williams, AJ Klein, Bene, Shaq, Delaire....

Can someone tell me what defense Titans play and how that affects to what extent Bene will be playing Nickel?  It would be great if he could get some outside reps and spell Tillman a bit.

Well their running game is for poo. Kid you not. Sankey, McCluster, and Antonio Andrews flat out suck. Their 5th rounder David Cobb is on IR-DTR. O-line is a dumpster fire except for serviceable LT Lewan. Byron gonna Bell at RT and rookie C Gallik has a nasty habit of sailing snaps. TE Walker is their best pass catcher. His TD vs. the Taints was an Ed Dickson-like fluke play. Right time and place for the ricochet.

But you probably want to know about their WRs the most. Their #1 is Kendall Wright (think Randall Cobb slot-type), but he was inactive for Taints game with an injury. #2 looks like Justin Hunter (6'4" 203) and #3 is 2nd rounder Dorial Green-Beckham (6'5" 237) with Falcant cast-off Harry Douglas rounding out their corps. Wright's been their juice, so monitor his practice work this week.

I'd like to see Tillman spelled a bit, too, but he has a bit better size to matchup with DGB. Norman will probably draw Hunter since Hunter's faster. I just don't see them running the ball very much or well against us. Which means air it out rook.

J_No24: Huh? What? Someone say "air it out rook?" That's my Bat-signal. Time to go to work

Great answer.  Thanks so much.  Love that comment re: J-NO and the bat signal.  Well done.

(And thanks for figuring out that of course I was asking about Titans' OFFENSE.  Coffee hadn't yet kicked in when I wrote my earlier comment.  LOL!)

I don't take any game for granted, but this one I feel comfortable with.  Didn't they just fire somebody?  Always a good sign.

Not always.

Sometimes teams rally for a replacement, especially if the guy they replaced wasn't very good or wasn't very well liked.

And Mike Mularkey isn't a rookie here. He's been an NFL head coach before, twice I think.

Cam was off the charts on Sunday in terms of net passing yards per attempt.  Average Net Yards per passing attempt of 10.4 yards.  Wow.

However, there was one QB in the league who had a higher stat than Cam in week 9.  Mariota:

2 Cam Newton 30 297 3 1 0 0 10.40 30 98

Well yeah, he was playing the Saints.

They are way better than their record (especially with Mariota who missed two games).  Dont sleep on them at home or else we will lose

Yep they're not a bad team.

Also Kendall Wright is most likely out again this week. I don't think it was by coincidence that Mariota moved the ball better without Wright. Wright has been very vocal this year about his targets and imo is becoming a problem for them (especially with a young QB).

Harry Douglas stepped in and caught 5 passes for 70 some yards from the slot. Which leads me to the matchup I'll be watching most and that's Bene vs Douglas. It's no secret Bene has been struggling this season and Douglas isn't a scrub, this matchup will be key.

Here's the link to the Sporting Charts matchup tool where you can compare stats for Panthers & Titans:

http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/teams/matchup/364-carolina-panthers-vs-336-tennessee-titans/

One stat that jumped out at me was scoring efficiency.  Tennessee is racking up a lot of passing yards, but isn't as efficient at converting those yards into scores.  That's something the Panthers seem to be doing pretty well this year.

Panthers are 10th in the league in terms of scoring efficiency.  Titans are 29th.

Tennessee's red-zone TD scoring efficiency is slightly above ours (61.5% to 60%)  [See: https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/red-zone-scoring-pct/], but Carolina is more often in the Red Zone [See: https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/red-zone-scoring-attempts-per-game ]

Panthers are currently 4th in the league in terms of points per play.  Tennessee is 25th.  [See: https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/points-per-play]

For all of 2014 Panthers ranked 21st in Points per Play. But, as of mid-season last year, we were even worse, at 26th., so this scoring efficiency has been a HUGE HUGE area of improvement for the Panthers this season.
