Are Cam Newton's touchdown celebrations getting under the skin of his opponents? Is it getting to the point where Newton could put himself at risk of retaliation from an aggressive defensive player?

Ultimately, is the Carolina Panthers quarterback putting a big target on his jersey?

I just have to say that Cam, no matter what he does, is no bigger target now than he's ever been before.  He's the most field-aware person I've ever seen.  When he gets hit, its because he himself has CHOSEN to either take or deliver the hit.  Rare is the time he's taken a "shot" that he wasn't ready for.

So is he a "target"?  Does he have a "bullseye on his back"?  No more than he ever has IMO.

"No doubt, no doubt," Tennessee Titans cornerback Perrish Cox told ESPN.com's NFL Nation. "Everybody is not the same. You've got some guys who have an aggressive attitude.

"Those ones that have an aggressive attitude, especially in a close game, it could come out at times. What he's doing, he eggs it [on]."

Shut up, loser.  I thought a "Titan" was a mythical Greek deity of great strength and size?  Seemingly it has been redefined to mean "gaping vagina".

Indianapolis linebacker D'Qwell Jackson said Newton makes it hard on himself with some of his extracurricular antics.

"He made a comment about 'Don't let me score,'" he said. "Every guy who plays him, he runs the ball, so they're going to make sure they get after him.

You weren't "getting after him" already, D'Qwell?  You mean, when he embarrassed you and whooped that ass, that's because you LET him?  If you weren't "getting after him" like you were paid to do, D'Qwell, maybe you owe your druggie owner a refund of your salary and bonus.

Quote

"He's just creating a big bull's-eye on his chest."

And what is a Colt?  Its an infant male horse.  A baby.  Good god, could someone please redeem the pussification of the AFC South?

Quote

What happens if he gets hurt?

You telegraphing your intentions, D'Qwell?  Well, you have to catch him first, BITCH.

Quote

"I get the celebration, but all the extra stuff taunting in the guy's face ... that should have been called, in my opinion "

Horses are often made to wear blinders right?  QED.

"This isn't 'Footloose,'" Panthers defensive end Jared Allen said. "Dancing is not banned. I've been on the other side of that. There's Jimmy Graham dunking on the goal post.

"Guess what? You're mad because we scored. You're not mad because of the dance."

God bless you, Jared Allen.

Quote

Jacksonville defensive lineman Tyson Alualu called Newton's touchdown dance "awesome."

"I don't know why they get mad," he said. "He was right what he said in his interview. If you want it to stop, you've got to keep him out of the end zone.”

THE AFC SOUTH ISN'T FULL OF WHINING MEWLING BRATS!  THE JAX JAGUARS HAVE REDEEMED THE SOUTH!

Quote

Washington nose tackle Terrance Knighton said Newton's celebrations are "good for the kids."

"The kids get to see their role models having fun and playing a game we love; so, shoot, if he scores a touchdown, he can do whatever he does,” he said.

Someone needs to inform those whining bitches at Extreme Skins that their players aren't pusses like they are.

Quote

"You don't want to see guys, especially a quarterback, celebrate," Jackson said. "For him, he has to be careful. A D-lineman gets a hold of him, and he can get hurt."

I wonder what the NFL thinks they should REALLY be worried about?  The joyful, celebratory antics of Cam Newton?  Or the implied threats of the defensive fodder he leaves in his mighty wake?

I have to imagine that, as competitors, defensive players want to put hits on Cam not only because he's a QB but also because he's a great quarterback.  That's fine. It's expected. You're on defense, you're supposed to make plays and hit hard.  I think what my concern would be is for dirty players. Players who take it past a good hit during a play, but rather a cheap shot.  There probably aren't many players who have this mentality but all it takes is one, but I don't think that his dances or first down signs make it any MORE likely that he's a target. He's a 6'5" 250 lb #1 overall Heisman winning QB.  He's a target. Defensive players (who play the game the right way) have to make business decisions every time they're faced in the open field against Cam, and I'm ok with that.

No more a target now than at any other point in his career.  Nothing has changed w/ Newton big picture.  Only difference is he has a lot more wins to his name this year.

Cam hasn't upped his first down points, he hasn't increased his endzone celebrations.

Opponents have gone out of there way to do Cam's Superman on their own TDs and sacks.  He has been marked for a LONG time.  So he has a bulls-eye on him.  It isn't a new one though.

Cam's personality makes it more likely that defenders (some of 'em anyway) want to put that big smile in the dirt, but 1-they have to deal with that big body to do it, and 2-if you want Cam to change who he is in order to please (some) fans and piss off the other team to a lesser degree, then you're asking for the wrong thing. Cam's gonna be who he is, and I'm fine with that. I like that he's having fun out there, and he's learned to not get down on himself when the game isn't going well for him.

Just now, Panthro said:

I will never forget watching the probowl when the saints lineman essentially didn't block.

every other team hates him but would love to have him

This is equivalent to the MJ All-Star Game freeze out Cam really is the MJ of the football field ... when Cam came in everybody on D started trying, exotic blitzes came, and the offensive line did not block

great point.

Cam got abused and attacked in a Pro Bowl game.  Media would have demanded the game end if people went after Brady in a Pro Bowl.  Dude has been a target since his debut in Arizona.

This is the same Dave Newton, who couldn't tell the major difference between RG3 and Newton (in his recent retrospective of the two), was because Cam could actually throw from the pocket the 1st day he walked into the NFL, while RG3 couldn't, and still can't!?

Note: Newton, claimed 'the Panthers built their offense around Cam, while 'The Skins' tried to convert RG3 into a pocket passer (totally missing the point, Newton's a pocket passer, regardless of his running skills, while RG3's not)'. No Mr. Newton.

That David Newton?

Back to Footloose: Nothings changed. Most players like Cam. Some do not; especially the losers and haterz in this article!

Game on!
