Not really stats & analysis, but checking a feed with tweets by Panthers players, I just noticed two tweets by Ricky Proehl congratulating two of our WRs.  I don't think I've seen that before.  It's pretty awesome for our coaches to be publically acknowledging great play / big milestones by our players via Twitter:

This one was over almost before it began. The Panthers jumped to a 21-0 first-quarter lead with 260 yards of offense, the most by any NFL team in any quarter this season.

The Panthers have rushed for more than 100 yards in 24 consecutive games, and the line is a big reason why. The last team to accomplish that was the 1976-78Chicago Bears.

THIS!!!

Points off turnovers: Carolina - 117 Opponents - 22

Seriously, this is a huge reason we're 13-0 and why we're ;eading the league in points.  These points scored on opponents' turnovers averages out to 9 points a game.  So without these points off of turnovers, instead of scoring 31.6 points a game, we'd be scoring about 23 points a game (which sounds a lot more "typical" of the Panthers over the years.)

As time permits, I hope later this week to post more on these points scored following turnover stats....

Copied from @MotherGrabber sig.  Interesting to me that if we can win our last 3 regular season games, we will be at 500 again for the first time since october 4, 1998, when we were 27-27 as a franchise.  That is 6280 days.

  • 171-174-1 overall (including 7-6 in the playoffs)
  • 0.493 winning percentage, and 3 games below .500 as a franchise
  • 46-33-1 with RR and Cam (including 1-2 in the playoffs)
  • 0.57 winning percentage, and 13 games above .500 under RR and Cam
  • 27 wins until RR is Panthers winningest HC

If we go 15-1, our record will be 173-175-1...

Assuming we win out from there, the Superbowl win would be the one that finally puts our team over .500 all-time

That really is an incredible stat.  A 9 point swing not to mention the potential points off drives we're taking off the board on those turnovers?  That's the difference between a potential 16-0 season and a 8-8, 9-7 type of one.

I've been remiss in recent weeks in not keeping my signature updated with Fozzy's recent stats... partly because I forget (I keep sigs turned off most of the time due to bandwidth issues), but also, to be honest, Fozzy's stats hadn't been too exciting yet this season.

How AWESOME it was to see him get some good runs today and score a TD!  Remembering his great TD against AZ in the playoffs last year... maybe he's a player who peaks late in the season!  Let's hope so.  Keep it going Fozzy bear.  Love watching you when you've got it going!  Congrats on your first TD of the season.  Confident you'll get more!

Nice stats & analysis over at B/R

A display of both offensive and defensive dominance has become nearly routine for the Panthers, which is why after Sunday’s win the perfection chatter should go from whispers to table pounding.

Can they realistically end their season with an unblemished record, becoming the first team to accomplish that since the 2007 New England Patriots? Before looking at the road ahead, it’s important to take a moment and absorb just how much Carolina is breathing hot fire right now.

The Panthers have scored an average 36.6 points per game over the past five weeks, and they've allowed an average of 15.6 points. The latter per-game number there even includes a one-week defensive blip against the New Orleans Saints during that stretch when the Panthers gave up 38 points.

If you need more statistical context for just how much the Panthers are rolling, then we can dive a little deeper into Newton’s heroics. He’s scored a combined 16 passing and rushing touchdowns since Week 10, all while throwing just one interception on 148 attempts.

As ESPN Stats and Information observed, he’s shattered previous career highs:

Oh, and the degree of difficulty hasn’t exactly been low for Newton. Prior to Week 14 his 47.3 completion percentage on balls traveling 20-plus yards was tied for seventh among all quarterbacks who accounted for at least half of their team’s pass attempts, per Pro Football Focus.

Cam in his 16 (regular season) starts since the car accident

282/474 (59.5%)
3603 yards (7.6 ypa)
33 TD
11 INT

141 rushes
677 yards (4.8 ypc)
10 TD
2 lost fumbles

Now those are some serious season numbers. If cam could(and he can) continue to average these or better stats over his career we will be winning for a long time.

Scott Fowler has a nice way of putting several stats into context:

Quote

▪  After the afternoon games Sunday, Carolina had taken over the NFL lead in total number of points scored (411) and average points per game (31.6). The Panthers have scored at least 33 points in five of their past six games. The fact that a Carolina team that was offensively challenged for much of last year (even with Kelvin Benjamin) can lead the entire NFL in scoring – that’s almost as remarkable as 13-0 to me.

▪  The Panthers are going to need to do whatever it takes to keep defensive tackle Kawann Short around – and that means a very big contract extension, likely this offseason. Not since Kris Jenkins in his prime has Carolina had such a disruptive pass rushing force straight up the middle. With two sacks Sunday, Short has nine for the year. That’s the most in any Panthers season for a defensive tackle, surpassing Jenkins’ seven in 2002.

▪  Do you think Ted Ginn Jr. might dig Cam Newton? In his nine-year NFL career, Ginn has had three games in which he has scored multiple receiving TDs. All three have come this season – and two of them in the past two weeks. There were no issues with drops on Sunday. Ginn averaged – and this is not a misprint – 60 yards a catch.

▪  The Panthers’ 260-yard outburst in the first quarter was amazing on a number of levels. It was the most yardage the Panthers have ever gained in any quarter, and the most any NFL team has gained all season in a single quarter. By halftime, Cam Newton had thrown for 246 yards before the Panthers shut him down early.
