If you are Steve Smith.....

Football is a team sport......if you play to win or lose as a group on a team that is the essence of both your success and your failure.

It is my understanding that Steve Smith near the end of his tenure as a Panther became more focused on the his individual pecking order over the team and as a result was becoming a liability to that process.

And this is the point I was getting at, and seemed to go over the head of most others. Alot of people crapping on 89 in this thread, but would be all up his ass if he showed up at the next RR meetup~

Dude will have to spend the rest of this season at least, and likely the rest of his life thinking about what "might have been" if he had controlled his own ego and inner diva. He didnt, we moved on, and excelled without him. That will burn him in the chest for the rest of his life.

It shows that few if any bothered to read the OP. It wasnt about Smith as a member of our team, or wanting him back, or even lamenting that he is gone (I am on record supporting that decision)

Its about a man putting in years of work for a goal that was never reached, only to see that dream reached (hopefully) after he was removed, and having to spend the rest of his life dwelling on the fact that maybe if he had been able to keep himself in check a bit more, he wouldnt have been released and been able to be a part of it.

Sucks for him I guess.  Part of his edge in the game is his extreme emotion and fire and this time it bit him in the ass. I'm sure he wishes he was here but I was glad to see him go.  Our best chance with Smitty would have been if we drafted a true alpha receiver and let steve mix it up in the slot.  But Hurney sucked

I mean, there is a Steve Smith thread every single week. The Panthers are 14-0 and he hasn't been a panther for two seasons.

I just can't wrap my head around it.

I kind of get it.  Smitty was a huge part of our team for years.  He was a huge part of our run to the Super Bowl.  He owns most of the franchise receiving records.  He played with fire and intensity.

I don't think we need to have a thread every week about him but I think it's okay to still appreciate what he meant for this team for years and years.

I wouldn't. I met that little prick at an autograph signing media event back around 2000 or so. He insulted everyone there including my 7 year old son. The man flat out lacks character.

You were getting his autograph when he was playing in Utah?

No he was a Panther. That's why I used the word around 2000. It was before the Super Bowl. It was at the Fairgrounds in Winston Salem. He was pissed to have to come over and sign autographs. All he wanted to do was throw the football around with some neighborhood kids.
