Dave Gettleman: "We need more speed on the field"

I have no idea why Roman Harper is playing the entire game at free safety. If we saw the tape of all the big plays that happened because he couldnt get there in time its amazing. If we had a Earl Thomas or honey badger our defense would be way different. I don't think Tre got one snap outside special teams today. In atlanta where last year he had a huge game.

Yea we need more reliable hands at WR with speed.

Harper should not be starting dont' give a poo, period...the speed of his replacement is well worth whatever else may come.

Tillman should have help over the top on all plays but can't now that Bene is hurt so yea they really need to play with the lineup instead of this do or die with whatever the fug Rivera comes up with no matter if it's working or not mentality...seriously Riveras lack of adjustments is a big time hindrance...you cannot tell me Harper is the best SS option for this team ATM.

In other positions we are just sort of screwed like WR(we tried to bring in help and injuries are what they are) and OL we brought in a lot of help there too and drafted it.

I mean DE we know can work but he keeps the veterans in there simply because they are veterans...so he just refuses to put whatever works since he cannot handle CJs bitching apparently...every coach has his weaknesses but that is a serious fatal flaw Rivera has....you have to play your best 11 on each and he is not doing that.

harper isn't great in recovery but he's actually not that bad. tre boston would be a huge downgrade.

make no mistake, even with benwikere's loss considered, it's the pass rush that's the biggest problem here. without linebacker blitzes every quarterback we've played since thanksgiving has had all day to make a decision. that's bad bad bad.

I can live with Tillman for the remainder of this season, but Harper serves no purpose at all.

He's not even helping in the run game. I seen him blow up a pulling guard about three weeks ago, that's about it.

I see Luke out there having to overcompensate for these guys.

A lack of pass rush is showing weaknesses....that we could live with.

we seemed to rush better when CJ was on IR....

Ealy and the former Redskin IMO should be playing significantly more.  We are asking too much of our secondary of late

The defense has been exposed. I've come to terms with a one and done playoff senario and will hope for more, but I feel a huge letdown coming for many that think this team will recover from 3 of the last 4 games of poor defense.

We still have the talent to correct some of our defensive issues....

doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure figure out that once we went to a CJ/Allen DE tandem as our primary set.......our DE pressure disappeared.  No matter what you got on the backend it will show weakness if your DEs blow.

I agree, but not sure that RR will make the needed changes soon enough. He has a history of waiting too long to make the changes needed.

Not many secondaries won't get burned when there is absolutely NO pass rush.

Blitzing has been pretty much our only chance of hurrying/sacking a QB this season, which in itself exposed the middle of the field to slants, as we saw today.

DE rush is our main weakness and priority for next season

    • I definitely respect your opinion more than Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, and Carmelo Anthony (whom I just watched on their show, all saying NOBODY wants to get the Hornets in the post-season). You win.
    • For all the good feelings about Bryce Young, when you read between the lines, it's what DC says and doesn't say that makes us know that Bryce hasn't necessarily been the supercomputer that they thought he would be. This season, Bryce has to make a tangible progression on the field. "A big part of it is being able to operate at the line of scrimmage — not in the huddle — when we want to, and he’s certainly capable of that," Canales said about Young. "It’s not solely on him. It’s a group that’s pretty young. You have to trust all the guys to go up there, communicate verbally or nonverbally and execute what we’re doing. We’ve made huge strides in that regard. His ability to alter things based on what they’re giving you will give us another edge, which he’s continued to grow and had some great examples down the stretch where he identified things they were doing, got us to the right check and capitalized on some plays. Want to see him do that more when it’s appropriate. We don’t need to be changing things just to change it." The implications, perhaps insinuations, are pretty evident. Bryce is just going to have to do better. "And then for Bryce, it’s the identification of early on the cues that the defense are giving us, to be able to eliminate parts of your progression before the ball’s even snapped. That happens with time. I’ve seen quarterbacks really own and master, which allows them to play lightning fast." Obviously Bryce isn't necessarily picking things up as fast as Canales would like, and I can only assume that Canales is making comparisons to Russell Wilson, Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield. But, of course, not everyone picks things up at the same rate. Bryce's pace has left Canales wanting for more. During the coming season, I don't believe that it will be good enough for Bryce to start putting things together in December, evidence of the light switch being on is going to have to show itself in September. Basically, it's really the moment that we've all been waiting for, the one that we thought should've happened earlier, the one that brings Bryce's accountability in the spotlight. On an off note, perhaps to that end, we should consider the possible implications upon the draft, but that's another story. Basically, it's time for Bryce to sh¡t or get off the pot. https://roundtable.io/sports/nfl/panthers/news/carolina-panthers-dave-canales-holds-nothing-back-on-bryce-young-in-new-interview
