Blandino on the no catch call

I haven't seen all the replays yet, as I was at the stadium but that was clearly a catch. His hand was under the ball all the way. The reason they didn't overturn was because he didn't cradle it on his rollover. It was clearly BS. It is a clear indication that something needs to change because had they called it a catch, they couldn't have overturned it to a non-catch.

But the biggest BS call was the PI, I was 20 yards away. There was no way anyone was catching that ball. That was utterly disgusting as a call by those refs.

For the most part it was decently officiated. We got away with a lot of OL holding. I hate to say it, worse than the refs was the media. They killed Cam, bigger reason we lost.

While that was a bad call...it was clearly a catch.

Cotch had NO reason to even bobble the ball to begin with. If he catches the ball he would probably have run for another 10 yards or so given how slow he is.

If that was any top 20 NFL WR that pass might have gone for a TD.

Again, we must get better at the WR position. We cannot keep putting every yard in the passing game on the right arm of Newton. We have got to get WRs that can catch AND then RUN.

You know poo has hit the fan when they went man to man with their LBs covering our WRs  (namely Cotchery) 20 yds downfield.

I've given up on trying to figure out calls, just seems like we get pooed on with anything in the realm of refs decision. On questionable catches they give the catch to other teams forcing us to challenge, then we lose the challenge on lack of evidence. Then when we have the ball and make a questionable catch they call it incomplete and force us to challenge, then don't overturn because of the lack of 100% evidence. On top of that how many times have we been hurt on 3 step completions with a football action getting called incomplete. I hate playing the sour grape but Jesus if it didn't feel like we were held to a different standard on holds and blocking. Top that off with the lack of an offside call on the FG miss and I just accepted the fact the only way we'd win is if Cam took over and didn't get a play called back.

I understand the argument here but was it enough to win us the game?  I am under the assumption that is was not, even if overturned to a catch.  We had some big plays later on in the game that did not change the momentum our way at all...doubt this one would have made much of a difference.

Blandino is either wrong, confused about his own rule, or under someone's thumb.  The media this morning is full of articles discussing this.  Where did the ball hit the ground?  Even if it did, was it already in his control at that point?  Is there even an argument to be made that Cotch had become a runner, which would also change the outcome?

And the list goes on...

That play/call, and a few others like it, changed the game - and not in a good way for the Panthers.

This is the gif from that SBNation link...

The ball does move around the time it hits the ground, but Cotch maintained control of the ball the entire time.

The NFL rules state:

Quote

If the ball touches the ground after the player secures control of it, it is a catch, provided that the player continues to maintain control.

...

If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball until after his initial contact with the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.

He absolutely 100% had control of it BEFORE he or it hit the ground and the ground didn't "help" him at all.

My question is, and I think that they should explain this everytime, was the ruling based on the fact that the ball moved or was it based on the fact that there wasn't enough evidence to overturn the ruling on the field?  Blandino said in his tweet it was because the ball "slid up his body", but then he says "not enough evidence to overturn"... so which is it???
