1. Cam should have jumped on the ball. 2. Cam shouldn't have walked out postgame. 3. Saying that doesn't make you a hater.

The excuse making for Cam Newton's poor play and poor showing post-game on Sunday has been incredibly grating to people not looking at what he did through a homer lens. You can make all the excuses for why Cam didn't jump on the ball, why Cam threw errant pass after errant pass, why Cam sulked and walked off the stage postgame....none of that changes anything. Cam was not good Sunday. PERIOD. That doesn't mean he sucks or shouldn't have been MVP or isn't the best player in the history of the Panthers or a possible future Hall of Famer. Pointing out when he has legitimately messed up doesn't make you a "white-as-a-bleached cracker" either. If we can call out Teddy Williams or Jerricho Cotchery for messing up, Cam's fair game too.

I think a lot of the mindless Cam defending and homerism is a result of us having to defend Cam from all of these insane personal attacks he's been on the receiving end of especially this year. The idiotic Tennessee mom, the crybaby Seahawks fan that wanted Cam banned from the stadium, Bill Romanowski calling Cam "boy". fug all of those people! Seriously...fug them! But that doesn't mean that Cam can do no wrong.

I agree with you man. I've loved Cam since he was drafted, but seeing him say he didn't want to dive on the fumble out of injury fear when guys like TD are playing with a broken arm just bums me out. I wanna give him the benefit of the doubt and believe he just did it out of instinct without thinking about it, but I don't know.

Cam is our franchise QB, and completely changed this franchise for the best. Doesn't mean he should be immune from criticism on this board.

I don't disagree,  that it is okay to say that if it's your opinion. The problem is the lengths people are going to. Would it have been better? Sure. Does it mean that he is a person of poor character because he didn't? Absolutely not.

Cam should have jumped on the ball, but he took one large stride too many to be able to do that safely. He thought he could reach down and pick it up and was mistaken.

Anyone with two eyes can see this. I don't understand how it is even still being discussed.

That's literally all I said.

I don't think it's a sign of poor character nor do I think Cam Newton is a person of poor character. Just the opposite, the extreme opposite.

    • I'd hold on to Walker - we have no OT depth at all. Freeling is a block of clay - all the tools are there and he appears to have a great attitude. He needs serious work on his technique to realise his potential though.
    • From my watch last night: They weren't trading out of 19 unless it was a daft offer once Freeling got there. They were clearly antsy to get Hunter - and Minnesota actually called to offer the trade down. They weren't trading out of the third round pick once Brazzell fell to it (and Canales would have been happy with him in the second round). They traded back a lot on Day 3 - even if Morgan 'Babe Ruth'd' it with Lee, Hecht and Wheatley; they clearly weren't the only guys they would have taken at those picks. I'm curious to know which player caused the reaction at the start of day 2 (Dan Morgan): "of course they'd pick him"
    • Watching this confirms that this staff and front office is super high on Monroe Freeling. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gotta a real chance to win the starting LT job in camp. If he does, we can look to flip Rasheed Walker to a contender desperate for tackle help.   As for Ickey I still really like him and wanna extend him but based on how the staff was talking about Freeling it might be time for ickey to start taking some practice sets at guard if he wants to stay here as we are gonna have to have figure out a solution for the contracts of Lewis and Hunt.  My preferred scenario for the Oline in 2027 is Freeling-Ickey-Hech-Lewis-Moton.
