Let's talk about Ted Ginn Jr.

I think Ginn is in trouble for the mere fact that if we stay healthy, he'll go from being the Sept '15 number one to Sept '16 number four. Philly Brown's drops were mostly a preseason problem and, in my opinion, he's a great route-runner - he just knows how to get open. Funchess will head into the season with almost the same on-field experience as Kelvin. No matter how those guys end up the season next year in terms of top three receivers, I don't know how Ginn could crack the top three.

Additionally, Ginn is just not the punt returner he once was. So I could easily see us signing or drafting someone to compete with the top three guys at receiver and also return punts. (Travis Benjamin? Pie in the sky, but we're just spitballing here.)

This years wide receiver free agency class is setting up to be pretty weak behind Alshon, we would have to overpay for a Marvin Jones, Rishard Matthews, or Travis Benjamin.  Ginn is cheap, fast, and far exceeded expectations this season I see no reason not to keep him on the roster and throw a deep pass or two his way every game.  I'm sure Gettlemen knew what he was getting drops wise when he signed him.

Ginn can't top this year. He had his own magical season along with the Panthers.  He slides down once KB comes back and maybe it's Joe Webb on the outside.

Or KB being back frees up space for Ginn because the defense has to pay more attention to Kelvin...

Ginn sticks around.  In my dream scenario, he falls to #4 where he should be.

We sign Jeffery as insurance for KB coming back from a major surgery.  That way if something happens we aren't in the same situation.  When Jeffery's contract comes up, KB's will be too and we can make a decision.

So you sign Jeffery, pair him with KB/Funchess/Ginn/Brown and Olsen of course, and well, good luck defense.   We have some cap room and Jeffery may help us out some way (not a big discount but a favorable contract) to play in the Carolinas again.   I know everyone hates spending money but, I don't find it crazy to add a key piece like that.   Jeffery is 26 so he also knows he has another big contract left.

As it stands now I believe Ginn is still our number 2 heading into next year. With the WR FA class being a weak one we'd have to overpay for someone like Marvin Jones (who I think is a better fit for this offense than Alshon).

I think drafting another WR early in the draft is key and smart budget wise. A guy like Tyler Boyd who runs solid routes would be a nice add and take some pressure off Ginn and Funchess who I still believe needs another year.

I think our money is better spent on the D this FA period and as long as we can add another WR early we won't be as dependant on Ginn which will be a good thing. He's still good for the speed part but with his hands being 50/50 he's not someone you want out there as much as we needed this year.

Think that says more about the special teams coverage than it does Ginn, he showed v Arizona what happens when he has a bit of space

Ginn is completely safe....as a no. 3, which would have been his role had KB not gone down.

We put him in a bit of a position to fail, we know he has average at best hands, and we were needing him to be a no. 1/2 option for us....just too much.

I think he comes back, and plays better next year honestly.

While I do not think we need some major overhaul of our WR core...

I am completely dumbfounded and floored by the people on this board who attacks anyone who suggests that a WR core led by Ted "stone hands" Ginn Jr this year...that will enter next year (if no one gets hurt) with a 2nd year, coming off an ACL injury, still RAW player KB, and an even more RAW 2nd year player Funchess...Philly "I cannot stay healthy in the playoffs" Brown...

should not add someone of Alshon Jeffery's talent level.

NEWSFLASH: The weakest part of the Panthers game last season...Anyone want to venture a guess?

Run defense? Run offense? Pass defense?

Nope.

The 2015 Carolina Panthers ranked 24th in PASSING OFFENSE. And that is with the damn MVP. If Newton was an average QB, our passing offense would probably be much, much, much worse.

IT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW TO HAVE AN ELITE PASSING GAME. IT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW TO HAVE MORE THAN ONE GREAT WR. GOODELL IS NOT GOING TO SUSPEND RON RIVERA FOR HAVING GREAT WRS.

IT IS OKAY TO ADDRESS THE LEAGUES 24TH RANKED PASSING GAME WITH ADDITION OF MORE TALENT.

His speed changes our offense even if it is just his presence on the field. We have no one else that can do what he does. Philly is quick and all and I'm sure he would tell you otherwise, but he isn't even in the same universe as Ginn as a deep threat. Unless we find a way to sign Travis Benjamin or draft someone like Corey Coleman then Ginn will be back and we need him back.

I'm on board with Travis Benjamin big time.
