Trades for players buried in Depth Chart

Don't like Marquis Lee. Philly Brown can give us the same thing.

Gettleman had a shot at Lee when we picked KB (and got killed for taking KB over him).  Can't imagine he would trade anything for him.  Philly has better career stats.  Lee is more injury prone than Philly, too.

I would be mad if Gettleman traded away draft stock for another WR.  With KB, Funchess, Ginn, and Brown, there really is only one other spot probably considering we have Joe Webb.

Our 5th WR is mostly going to be inactive anyway barring injuries since Webb is usually active and could serve as the 5th WR.

If a trade does happen, I would think it would have to be for offensive or defensive line depth or defensive backs.  I would put the chances of a predraft trade happening at >1%.

Might happen during the draft, but then it would be to move up or down.  IMO, locking up Short and/or Norman and having a good draft far exceeds any other needs that could be addressed by making a trade.

I think we may be active in the first wave of FA this year for someone like Vernon or Eric Weddle.  But outside of someone like that, think Gettleman will be his normal methodical self.

The only one I could think of, and no I'm not kidding, is Clowney if the price was right and GMan really thought bringing him home would do the trick.

Other than that there are too many options available in FA and the draft, and we simply don't have a severe enough need, to justify giving up an asset.  I certainly wouldn't be opposed to giving up a 3rd to Cincy or Pittsburgh to leapfrog Seattle in the 1st to get the obvious BPA if all needs are met in FA.  Otherwise I just don't see it.

I don't trust backup Ravens safeties. PTSD in that regard.

As far as the other guys go, I trust Gettleman's scouting expertise in that area. He made two trades last year in Allen and Norwood. Both were had for peanuts without mortgaging the future, and the Allen trade proved to be well  worth it in the fact that we got a consistent starter for cheap even if his stats weren't out of this world.

I believe Darian Stewart was a backup safety for the Ravens and now is the starter for the Denver Broncos, and is a huge asset to their defense.

Irregardless of Smith being fifth on the depth chart, the Jets would need an outstanding offer to part with him. Not just because he was a recent 2nd round pick - a little ahead of our own receiver named Devin - but also due to the cap hit the Jets would incur from trading him.

His cap hit this year is $1,334,641; however, the Jets also gave him a signing bonus of $2,530,850 at signing a year ago. Even in a trade, already-paid amounts stay with the original team and accelerate the moment a player is cut or traded (exception being post-June 1 cuts). Of that amount, $1,898,137.50 still remains after the rest was amortized to his rookie year cap hit.

My point is, the dead money exceeds the current cap hit by $563,496.50, so the Jets would actually lose that much cap room by trading him. This is one of the reasons highly-drafted 1st and 2nd year players are so hard to trade. Though once they get to year 3 they've hit or passed the halfway point on their deals, so guaranteed money becomes less of an issue.

Lee was a bust in the 2nd round and can't stay healthy. Sure if he could why not give up a late-ish pick... Hunt would be interesting. Elam sucks, I would never trade for him.  Smith I'd like to have but they're not trading him after 1 year.

4) Margus Hunt - CIN - The 6'8" behemoth is 3rd on the RDE spot. Would love to see him play his potential with us. In 2013 he signed a 4 year, $3,671,102 contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, including a $1,049,892 signing bonus, $1,049,892 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $917,776. In 2016, Hunt will earn a base salary of $855,604 and a workout bonus of $50,000. Hunt has a cap hit of $1,168,077 while his dead money value is $262,473.

I would love this move. Pretty sure this dude blocked like 20 field goals in college.

We're stacked at WR..  Believe it or not.

Margus Hunt is the only interesting candidate.

I don't believe it! Granted, we can get more bang for the buck in other places but rest assure, a true speed, deep threat that can catch and command double teams would take this Offense to another level. Are we going to lose games cause we disguised Ginn and Philly as that guy? Heck no.

But pleaaaasssseeee, don't claim we are "stacked".
