With such a big jump in cap this isn't the year to go after free agents. They will be getting overpaid by the likes of Oakland and Jacksonville.

Dave probably isn't shopping top shelf anyway. The players he'll be targeting won't have their prices driven up too much

Gettleman certainly knows the going rate for a CB of Norman's caliber, and he surely has a good idea about what Norman's agents are expecting.  With that said, the fact that Gettleman made it clear that he is looking to get a long-term deal done with Josh indicates that he is willing to pony up the money necessary to keep him...or at least be in the ballpark.

If he knew that Josh' people were looking for a much bigger contract than he is willing to even consider, then you would have heard a much more tepid expectation from him about the possibility of a long-term deal rather than a sense that something will get done.

Maybe but looks like Dave is going to tag Josh in the next 48hrs.

Yeah, but he sounds like he really wants to get a long-term deal done with Norman.  The tag just gives him more time to work out a deal, and keeps Josh in the fold for another year in the event they can't come to terms.

In the next 3 days? Because Tuesday is the deadline to use the tag and they are reportedly pretty far apart. It's possible but I wouldn't bet on it. If there's no deal y Tuesday then he's definitely getting tagged. Can't risk losing him for nothing in FA.

Learn more, even if he is tagged there is time to sign him before he signs the franchise tag.

Yeah, that's getting franchised tagged. He may not play on the tag but he is 100% getting tagged by tomorrow.

No that's being designed for the tag.  Lean more they are in contact talks right now. A player has to sign the tender to be franchised.

I'm just hoping the cap increases every year because it totally ruins the fan experience when our favorite teams have to let go of players that, for the most part, have been developed by our organization and some other team gets to fap-off on our home-grown talent in their prime.

It also brings up the ugly fact that young players don't give it their all until their contract year comes to fruition.

Luckily for us, we have such ayoung and talented core that is held up to the highest standards, year-in and year-out by the veterans and coaches who have had hands in building this organization into SB contenders that also do their part in bringing the community together.

By my calculations there is a 98.7674% chance he gets the tag

Yeah I know. I was mostly thinking wishfully.

It's up to Josh. So glad Gettleman isn't as stupid as old Marty.
