Last Year's Free Agency Grades

About as valuable as mock drafts. I think most of you know that already, but it's fun to look back and laugh at the ignorance. Keep these in mind when guys start writing about this year's free agency period.

CBS/Pete Prisco, 2015:

Carolina Panthers

Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman didn't do much of anything in free agency, so it's hard to grade this team. They added Michael Oher to play tackle, but he has struggled the past two seasons. They also signed receiver Ted Ginn. That's about it.

Grade: D

Pete Prisco should pretty much be ignored when it comes to anything he says related to CAR.  He has hated our team for years.

Stems partially from a nasty back and forth between he and Tom Sorenson back when Prisco was the Jags beat writer.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that.  He was really salty about us when we went to the SB back in 03-04.  Also stems from him being a JAX guy - - with CAR and JAX getting teams at the same time, for quite a while there was a real rivalry between us.  Now....not so much.

Anyway, Prisco is a pinhead not to mention a terrible writer, often he does not know his subject material and simply guesses (Person......).

My favorite Prisco story was the time he listed his Top Ten quarterbacks in the league and had Chad Pennington at number ten. Then just a few days later he responded to a fan question by saying he didn't consider Pennington a Top Ten quarterback.

LOL I remember that.

As long as Prisco is around, Joe Person can take comfort that he is not the biggest dumbass in the media, and Darin Gantt can take comfort in the fact that he is not the biggest jackass behind a keyboard.  Prisco gets both of those titles.

Oher played very well at LT (signifigantly outperforming his contract), Ginn ended up being our biggest threat at WR and Coleman (who he didn't even mention) damn near made the Pro Bowl

LULLLLZZZZZZZZ

spot on as always Prisco you retarded man child

No mention of the 7 ints we got from Kurt Coleman? Prisco's panthers analysis isn't worth the paper it's written on.

you are using the term "analysis" very loosely.  All Prisco does is throw poo against the wall and HOPE that at least one thing happens.

    • That was always the fear, expectation, concern, etc, I had.  Someone showed a still shot from his pick last game and said it showed that the defender closed 3 yards on that ball in the last portion of its flight. I forget the number. 10 yards I think it said but that sounds extreme.  When guys are open by a step, any slowing down to wait for the ball lets the defender back into the play. That sort of stuff makes the margins so small… these NFL CBs are not slow.   It is a league that highly values foot speed; the 40 times and drill times are scrutinized down to the hundredth of a second when evaluating these players on both sides of the passing game. Receivers and defenders both.   My thing with his arm strength (or anyone’s) was always “why do you want to do that? Plus pay extra picks to put yourself in that situation?”. Asking for trouble.     I wish there was a way to measure velocity on the back half of a throw compared to when it left the hand. Or really get accurate reading of the flight time of a ball from the near hash to the sideline, 10 yards down the field. Because teams could use that info. I have always seen this as being a disadvantage with Bryce but it is beyond my ability to quantify it.   I think it would show what that arm strength is really about, a lot more than just measuring how much air can you put under it so it will fly as far as possible.
    • Who didn't see that coming....
    • Its a detriment if he can't play...as we are seeing.
