GNR punched glam in the nuts and then nirvana kicked it in the face.

what's interesting is that if you look at bands like ratt, poison, and everyone else on down they didn't have huge teased up hair and weren't really wearing a ton of makeup anymore by the late 80s.  they were wearing leather jackets and torn up jeans and other fake tough guy stuff to try and look like axl rose and slash.  that and bands like megadeth and metallica were starting to get mainstream exposure.  that genre really might have just died on its own eventually.

i mean seriously this is poison in 1990:

now who could bret michaels possibly be trying to look like

Yeah I remember when G'N'R came out and I was blown away by how much different it sounded than all the other rock bands at the time.  Almost as different as Nirvana sounded.

For the record G'N'R would probably have been my second choice with Welcome to the Jungle.

Idk I always thought slash was overrated. And I know that sounds ridiculous because i get why people put him up as top ten players of all time or whatever but I always felt like something was missing in his playing. Almost like it lacked that oomph feeling or something I can't quite put a finger on. Music is so subjective.

Like that stones song I just posted. I get so much feeling from Keith's guitar playing it's hard to put into words. Just tastes I guess.

yeah he's pretty much a pentatonic noodler

looking at the context though i can understand it.  that was a pretty radical throwback considering where things had been going by the mid 80s though.  he played a les paul at a time when the hot thing was to play at a million miles per hour on ridiculous looking pointy 24-fret guitars with floyd rose systems.  it plateaued with michael angelo batio and  if you want to see something awe inspiringly ridiculous you can still find some of his instructional videos on youtube.

For about 8 years, there wasn't a single concert a person could attend where this wasn't playing before the show. That alone should be enough to tell you that this is the greatest rock song of all time. But if not, just the way it all flows together is amazing.. don't even care if it's been overplayed to hell and back - still just a terrific song:

come on man... I'm as metal as anyone, but if you're going to pick a Pantera song, it has to be something earlier than that album...

This sounds off in my head pretty much every time the Panthers score a touchdown... dunno why but that riff tho

Can you find my name?

I had a music appreciation class in 8th grade and this was the very song I spoke 20 minutes about lyrical interpretation. I was a bit over my skis, but it blew everyone's mind in the class.... including the teacher.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
