With Norman gone, Norwell may just be the second-most pressing extension after Short. Star still has the fifth-year option after this season, and virtually all our other young pieces still have years left on their rookie contracts.  Then again Norwell will be restricted after this year, but if he keeps it up he'll require a first round tender to keep.

Top OG, Kelechi Osemele, on the market this year got $11.7M/year which is probably where Trai would slot. Next two OG's, Brandon Brooks and Jeff Allen, got $8M/year and $7M/year respectively and Norwell is better than both of those guys.

That isn't necessarily cap killing but paying two guards $20M/year combined is a lot. Ultimately, I think we keep both but there is certainly a possibility Gettleman decides to only keep one of them. There is a lot of money that will need to be shelled out to keep the players on rookie contracts and keeping all of them is not really realistic. That's price of drafting really well.

Panthers Offense is based on the interior OL and it is worth it when you run the ball 50% of the time.OG's should be given the same priority as signing our DT's. You have to run the ball and you have to stop the run.

All bets are off if Joshua Garnett, the OG from Stanford Gettleman talked about, is at the top of the board when it's our turn to pick though.

I really don't think a 1st round tender is necessary. Someone would have to give up a 2nd round pick and a contract we can't match to get Norwell. No one would do that for a guard. The other side of the argument is it's only an extra million for the 1st round tender so why even take the chance with the 2nd round tender.

He seemed to like Kelly more. Either way the fact that he talked specifically about the OL but wouldn't divulge anything about the CBs makes me think DB is more likely.

Panthers have the 4th most cap space in the league, Norwell is making 600k in the final year of his contract.

Someone post that picture of him from training camp chasing someone down and looking like a lunatic tia.

He deserves it.

He will have to wait in line then. Kawann, Star, Trai Turner, and possibly even Kony, will come first.

That's one bad thing about the cap, you normally can't keep that much talent together very long.. If anybody can do it I guess Getty can.

Doubt it , Norwell is a proven commodity and he will be here for longterm with Trai for the best interior OL

I agree, but how do you make sense of this?

Carolina could also look for a left guard more athletic than Andrew Norwell.

"That guard from Stanford, big hog molly, Joshua Garnett, he’s a big, powerful man," Gettleman said.

Jones wouldn't say that without hearing it from someone and it's a little odd for Gettleman to specifically mention a guard given what we have on the roster. It's not like guard is a position where you rotate players.

Maybe it's a planned shot at Norwell's agent to let him know that we could look at other options so he lowers the asking price or a smokescreen to let other teams know that we are really high on Garnett so they try to take him in front of us so another player drops. I don't think Gettleman is a guy who would publicly gush about a specific player like that if he didn't really like him.

Two days ago I would have said you were crazy if you mocked a guard to us in the 2nd which is where Garnett would go. Now I really don't know.

He really talked up Ryan Kelly also, which I'm sure you heard.  He was gushing over that kid.
