In a discussion in another thread regarding the Norman fiasco, I mentioned one of Gettleman's great strengths has been finding great value, and I attribute that in large part to his superior scouting and drafting ability.  So, I just caught the tail-end of The Dan LeBatard Show getting read to listen to Russillo and Kanell (as that is the only real ESPN show I can enjoy anymore), and I found this statement from LeBatard to be perfect.

They went down the list and it holds true for any franchise with sustained success.  And as much as I hate how the Norman situation was handled, and I still maintain my stance on what factored into it, I also maintain hope that we will patch up whatever hole was left by his departure.  Why? 

Because Gettleman finds value.

Ironically, when i was analyzing that statement further, i tried thinking about what teams DON'T find value, but do find great players consistently and consequently still suck...  first team that came to mind - the Redskins.  

We all know by now that big splashes in FA rarely work out for sustainable success, but I just thought this statement would provide some fellow Huddlers perspective and hope going forward.

Now, open up the floor for "herp derp 'i'm proudiddy and gettleman is emotional derp.'"

getty will fix losing norman by drafting Ogbah.  40TFL and 26.5 sacks to an already stellar defensive. qbs just aint gonna have the time to throw it down field and will end up throwing short passes over the middle right into the hands of luke and shaq.

Spot on. See what I truly find funny in all of this is that everybody understood a few years ago that drafting so well and having loads of talent would eventually mean we would be forced to let some of that talent go.  We all understood that and agreed that having so much talent you can't even afford to keep it all was a good problem to have. Then the first casualty happens and people are ready to crucify the GM of the year who made us a best record Superbowl appearing roster. Never fails how quickly fans forget and how short sighted they can sometimes be.

yep.  same problems as the seahawks have had and that's good company to be in.

This just pisses me off all over again.  Most of the blame goes on that dumbass agent, but this report pretty much proves I was correct in paralleling it with the Smitty "saga."  Like I said in the other thread, Gettleman has earned my respect with his scouting and drafting abilities, but he is too quick to want to show what a hard ass he is and it has cost us twice now.  I really wish he would quit acting like a fuging baby and stop taking umbrage at every fuging thing outside of someone kissing his ass and give things like this their room.

I'd say it's unbelievable, but it's not considering he's done it twice here now.  And are people still going to defend his actions as not taking things "personal" now?  But, Gettlemagic circlejerk, amirite?

I have given him respect in every thread about Norman and I have reiterated a million times over that I was pointing out that he is capable of making mistakes and is suceptible to human error.  Again, I maintain the situation was handled badly, but this thread isn't about that...  feel free to follow me around and show how salty you are though.

That's right.  You can't keep everyone.  The ones you do keep have to fit your team building philosophy.  For the Panthers, it starts in the trenches.  Josh Norman is a valuable guy, and one of my favorites, but he's far from the trenches.  Unfortunately, that meant he had to go.  Good news is, we can go ahead and try to knock KK out before he has another monster season.  This is his contract year!

That's not what you posted. You suggested he made roster decisions in order to "show what a hard ass he is" and that he is "taking umbrage at every fuging thing outside of someone kissing his ass and give things like this their room." I don't even think those last few words are coherent, but that's beside the point. You started a thread about Gettleman so I figured your other thoughts belonged here as well. The only one salty is you considering how worked up you got over the Smitty and Josh "sagas."

Nah, you appear salty.  Hence your need to follow me in different threads and quite posts from other threads as if I was hiding from them.  Lol, saying someone is "showing what a hard ass they are," would fit under the category of human error.  Just for future reference.  And if those last words weren't coherent, you may want to find a tutor to help you with your remedial reading level.  Now, serve me up some more butthurt, hall monitor.

      He's not wrong though. You talk like a politician on here. Leaving yourself just enough wiggle room to say you never fully counted Bryce out if you need to....But we can all see it. Just say you think he is a bust outright and you will have to type a lot less. Obfuscating your opinion behind QB3 competitions etc....

      Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
