Every year their draft analysis is just them whining that they were wrong and we did not pick OL.

"First round pick sucks because it did not address a need.  Next two picks suck because they did not address the need we said you would address."

It is almost as if Dave is doing it just to both them.

4) CAROLINA PANTHERS: It takes three years to fully evaluate a draft class, but this Panthers haul certainly missed the mark when it came to filling the team's biggest needs.

2014

CAROLINA PANTHERS: Since winning the division last season with a patchwork roster, the Panthershave lost two franchise players (WR Steve Smith and OT Jordan Gross) and a host of key contributors. Although Gettleman has plugged a few holes in free agency, the team needed to find a few blue-chippers at marquee positions to remain among the NFC's elite.

2013

CAROLINA PANTHERS: Ron Rivera needs to rectify the Panthers' leaky defense to help the team make a run at the postseason. The defensive-minded head coach took steps to remedy the problem by adding two defensive tackles in the early rounds.

Most of the guys in the media are just like most Panther fans.  After the first 50 players, they have no clue about anyone.  Everyone picked from here on out, except for someone like Connor Cook (who they HAVE heard of) will be an iffy pick.

Whoever gets Cook will get an A

Daniel Jeremiah and Mayock both do in depth scouting and tapes and interviews with scouts.  They get out of the first round, so to speak, and both had high marks for Bradberry.

Who cares what your neighbor or any of these quick trigger talking heads have to say about something they have never studied?

It's only somebody's opinion, but it's more than enough to put some on suicide watch.

Prospect rankings and draft round projections are also only opinions, usually from obscure sports writers who probably only saw 1 or 2 plays of game tape if any. Some consider them to be a whole lot more than that and respond in ridiculous ways when our GM's picks don't align exactly with them.

It always makes me laugh when these people preach "oh you could've waited a few more rounds to draft a DT. There is DEPTH at this position in this draft!" So what, we can wait to get a mediocre prospect in the 5th round that would've went in the 3rd any other year? Meanwhile if there's a monster in the first round that falls into our lap let's just pass on that opportunity because again, we can wait later and pick up a lesser prospect.

Proof once again that Gman knows quite a bit more than whoever the hell is giving out these grades.

You nailed it. We hear this "WTF are they doing?" crap every year from so called experts and also the reactionary fans. Both groups are always more wrong than right each year.

    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
