Head Scratchers in the Draft

Moving up to draft a kicker in the second round.  That was a humdinger!

Indeed.

That could become infamous, like the Jags drafting their punter (the guy they just released so they could sign Nortman) in the 3rd ahead of a bunch of guys like Russell Wilson.

It's going to become a meme.  "Yeah, strange pick, bad draft, but at least we didn't trade up in the 2nd to pick a kicker"

I hope someone will keep a record of all the studs that emerge that Tampa could have picked instead!

As we've learned from our picks, who cares about where players go? Just because drafttalkguyz.com says that a player shouldn't go in the top whatever doesn't mean that that player shouldn't. Teams are so complex, no one on the outside has any idea on what each team is doing.

the browns drafting 5 WR's

Don't know that they had much choice. Their top 2 WRs were Andrews Hawkins who is 5'7" and 30 years old and Brian Hartline who honestly just sucks. When you've got 14 picks and no one at the position you can afford to throw a wide net hoping a few of them stick. It's pretty similar to what we did at CB.

I've got several-

1st- Germain Ifedi OT- Hard to believe the Hawks took him ahead of Spriggs. He's a project.
2nd- Christian Hackenberg QB- I'd bet big money he'll be a big bust. Certainly not worth a 2nd round pick.
4th- Willie Beavers OT - Sucked in his senior year and at the Senior Bowl.

    • Exactly.  You let him play out next season and continue to develop Thorton.  Jackson’s earned his next contract, but his age and the risk of tying up such a large portion of the payroll at one position leads me to believe that we’ll let him walk. In all likelihood, we’ll draft another CB, or two, and bring in some journeymen to fill the roster void, between now and the start of the 2027 season.  That’ll create more balance financially across the roster enabling us to invest in other areas.
    • As far as the NFCS … I think this division will be hotly contested the next couple of years.   I am tending to pay more respect to both Atlanta and the Saints n terms of how strong they will be moving forward, than not.    I am mixed on Ryan but think they have a decent roster to start with. I don’t think he blundered hiring Stefanski. And that offense can be dangerous with a QB. Plus, defense is arrow up. No 1st round pick, WB issues will dull their effectiveness. Question is, to what degree?   I think Moore is going to be a good HC and can overcome tape that people have on Shough. They need a lot but they were playing with people. Just the way you want to see all the way to the end.    Not sure about Tampa they have Mayfield but I don’t think they can maintain their success and Bowles is not going to last much longer. They have to go through all that. Gonna be tough once it starts. Might already have started.    For us I feel pretty good about Morgan. But less so about our offense, we have some short term RB and OL issues and those things are critical given what we are working with at QB.  Overall, mixed. Like a lot of what I see but some major question marks remain.
    • Absolutely. If we are talking about a 20 year old youngster. He's a grown-ass man, and he doesn't know what his job entails or how to do it? Maybe he will be better next year! It's the Panther way.
