Disagree.  The Giants went "all in" for the next 2 years....knowing that Eli is aging, and if wins don't come soon, they will be rebuilding.

I don't even know what you're referring to.

Here's the deal though.. As long as the cap keeps rising, the Saint will continue to get bailed out of cap hell. Of course it's beneficial to keep moving money due to the future when the cap rises. Without knowing, I feel the Panthers have underestimated this effect somewhat when negotiating contracts

You said:  and you don't see people applying it to other teams with aging QBs

I disagree.  The Giants have an aging QB, and they just spent 100M guaranteed on Janoris Jenkins, Olivier Vernon, and Damon Harrison.

IMO they are throwing all caution to the wind in search of another deep playoff run.

The post I just made above will likely answer that question in full, but my initial point was that the notion that an NFL team without a franchise QB is obviously likely going to struggle. Its pretty much a rule.

The notion that spending money=bad team is so heavily tethered to one another in your mind it only makes it look like I'm saying two different things.

yeah sorry for not picking up on the nuances of your one-sentence post earlier in this topic

and no the notion that spending money=bad team isn't something that's embedded into my brain.  i basically agree with the notion that loomis just sucks at building a roster which is why the saints have sucked following that approach.

I'm aware of what I said. You insinuated the Giants did something prior to last off season that supposedly suggested they were going "all in" which then prompted me to tell you I had no idea what move you were referring to.

I think it screams of a team desperate to prove to the world that Eli doesnt suck.

and he does...

My post says nothing about last year.

Wonder if the Giants went "all in" this year?

Above is what I said.

Irrespective of the Saints,  I am more interested in the market for LTs.  Cordy Glenn just signed a five year,  $65 mil contract with $36 mil guaranteed.

If we can ever get Cam some top shelf blindside protection,  then we're gonna have to pay,  and to me that's not necessarily a bad thing. Will there be a day when Oher is demanding that type of bank? Good thing that we have Cam who is more mobile than most.

We should have made a play for Jared Veldheer when we had a chance.

Yes but I inferred that you must've been speaking about last season given that new York wasn't good. The free agents you listed for this season are all young players. The notion that they signed them for the sole purpose of "winning this season" is an enormous stretch.

And frankly as long as Eli continues to only play well on even numbered weeks it won't matter what new York does.

Yeah, they are pretty much out of cap jail next year. This is the last year where they are really tight on the cap. Even with this deal and a Brees extension they are looking at being around $20-30M under with only a couple important pending free agents.

Funny thing is, Loomis is doing the same thing Hurney did but Hurney got screwed by a stalling cap and Loomis has been bailed out by a consistently rising one.

They overpaid not just for this season, but the next as well....like the next post I made said.

You can choose not to believe that teams go "all in" I do.

Yeah what punishments do you think Goodell is gonna dole out on them when he finds out they overpaid?

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
