Yeah, the $100K the team spent on these rings is probably the difference between a critical medical breakthrough and the deaths of hundreds of people.

Those heartless bastards!

nice apathy! though i didn't say it would cause a breakthrough. but, you know, every bit helps.

would you be less of an asshole towards my innocuous comment if i suggested that the money be redirected towards the community? how about new paint job for the stadium? bonuses for team employees? something else? get a grip dude. you're being sassy with me over saying that making lavish diamond and gold rings is unnecessary for a second place finish.

Spoken like a true Bleeding Heart Liberal that has probably never won a trophy in his/her life. Besides...the NFL doesn't buy the rings. So maybe you could, you know, do a little research before you harp on a subject you are not all that familiar with. Google is your friend. I am also not sure how you can equate a Championship with 2nd place? The main goal of any organization is to win Championships. Sure winning the SuperB owl is the ultimate goal. But you don't even get to the big game without winning the Championship. Teams don't hang 2nd place flags. They hang Championship flags. I may not have kept every trophy I ever won. But I worked to earn every dang one. And the wife, who is not by any stretch a sports fan, has a few of them up on my shelf. So even she understands how important trophies can be. Well, that, and she liked the way they looked. Ah hellz, nevermind. Some folks will just never get it.

Why yes, I am a liberal. Thank you for noticing that I have compassion for those who are suffering or have less privilege than I do! Anyway, I once had the opportunity to play in a championship baseball game as a kid. I struck out swinging to end the game... on a full count... while down one run... with a guy in scoring position. Needless to say, I didn't give a fug about the runner-up trophy that I received because we didn't win the fuging championship. And the main goal of any sports team is not to win the Conference Championship. It is to win the league championship. Go ask LeBron if he's proud to win the East Conference for the sixth time in a row next week when he loses in the Finals for the second straight year. I'm sure he'll be ecstatic and mention how excited he is to receive the second place rings he'll get in a few months. Moron.

Does not make a big difference to me.

Did Denver also get a conference championship ring to go along with their Super Bowl rings?

Should the league give out NFC West, East, etc rings also?  Or playoff rings in general?

Guess it is a question of how far down the line you want to go with the rings

Maybe it's all true

The truth is this.

Yes.  It is true younger generations are indeed spoiled, arrogant, and entitled.

But so is the older generations.  Because the human species in general is a spoiled, arrogant, and entitled species.

And what happens throughout history is when the younger generation refuses to accept the world that the older generation has created for them, the older generation gets angry and defensive.

Participation trophies is a good example.  Older generations grew up being taught hyper competitiveness and individualism and when young people reject that in favor of unclusivity and collectivism they complain about the "wussification of America" as if the only way to prove your strength is to have a piece of plastic that symbolizes your dominance over all others.

But that is crap, because human nature is competitive regardless of trophies.  You don't get satisfaction from winning because of a piece of plastic you receive, the satisfaction of winning comes from... well winning.  Losing doesn't hurt because you dont get a piece of plastic.  Losing hurts because you lost.

The issue isnt trophies, the issue is participation trophies are an affront to their own world view, and because of their own arrogance, they believe their world view is actually what makes America great.  Trophies are just a symbol.

the hippy dippy baby boomers were rebellious against their strict disciplinarian greatest generation parents who sent them off to die in vietnam

the gen xers felt a disconnect with their idealistic boomer parents who didn't "get" them

millenials feel a disconnect with gen xers who left college without six figure non-dischargable debt and benefited from a roaring economy, high property values, and the internet boom

the next generation will probably hate people in my age group for some reason

And hording money will unfortunately keep many conservatives out of heaven according to J.C.

As long as we are on this tangent. Just an FYI, but calling someone who identifies with liberal thinking a Liberal is not an insult. It's ike trying to insult a fan of the NFL team in Charlotte by calling the a Panther.

I have to admit I'm always amazed at the number of "liberals" who drive fancy European cars and live in huge houses.

In your mind I suppose you equate politics with financial situation. I suggest you review what the definition of political ideologies actually are.

Good day, sir

I think there a lot more meaningful things that could have been done with the mone yeah. I don't really see how you can try to insult me when I am suggesting that the money go to a good cause such as researching injuries or helping those who aren't as well-off in the community instead of second place rings.

Do you live subsistence-only and give everything else you earn over and above that to "good causes"?

Or do you save, invest, try to build an inheritance for your children, and sometimes buy nice things that you don't really need?

Because you do realize there are many "meaningful things" that can use the money you are not actively using or the money that you are wasting on "nice things" for yourself and your family right?

"Oh but I'm different!  I donate time and money to charities!"

So do I.  And so does the NFL.  And so does the Carolina Panthers organization.  And so does Jerry Richardson.  And so does Ron Rivera.  Cam Newton.  Thomas Davis.  etc.

Just think how many needy children could be helped with the money Cam Newton has been spending on fancy cars, amirite?
