Byrd or Bersin

  1. 1. If preseason were one game, which receiver would you have on the roster?

    • Brenton Bersin

    • Damiere Byrd
      73

Byrd dropped a punt with the game on the line in preseason.

Bersin catches every pass thrown his way on third down to move the chains in regular season games and playoff games.I want the more physical receiver who has proven himself on the active roster while the developmental guy goes to the PS.

I don't know.  In the next 3 games if Byrd continues to be an explosive weapon on special teams....then Byrd needs the spot.    Because until you get injuries your 5th WR is simply a special teamer and garbage time player.

If Byrd continues to cause more turnovers maybe we can keep him to boost Kuechly and Davis' defensive statistics. This is a DPOY season, Not Super Bowl 51 season. Keep the guy who melts under the spotlight with the game on the line.

This.  The bottom of your WR group has to be an effective special teamer, or they're pretty useless.

Pardon me, that was under the assumption the muff wasn't part of his game going forward.  If it isn't and he keeps showing playmaking ability then he makes more sense as he could impact games

obviousy serial mufflers that turn it over shouldn't be in the field even if they are explosive

Honestly if you HAD to choose off that one game it's Bersin. Luckily decisions aren't made off one game. Have to look at the whole body of work + potential. With that in mind, if you HAD to choose today it's Byrd because he can fill more roles and has infinitely more potential. I'd still wait till preseason is over before choosing though.

I operate under the assumption of what I saw. What I saw was a grown man cower under the immense pressure of a preseason game on the line. (sarcasm)

I don't like seeing the Panthers lose any game, and this was one situation where the back-ups finally came to play at the end only to be rewarded by a special teams muff. Hopefully he turns this into a learning experience, however I don't believe Byrd will be on the final 53 man roster with or without that play happening.

As i've said before, he is playing for a PS spot or the potential to be signed by another team.

Bersin looked solid last night, but lesbi honest, his competition wasn't great.  We're stacked at receiver with Ben, Fun, Ginn, Brown, and Olsen.  But we don't have much of anyone at the return game with the exception of Ginn at PR.  Byrd can give us that spark in the return game that we so desperately need, plus, he's a reliable receiver.  Great deep threat, too.  I say give the nod to Byrd (ATM) and see if we can stash Bersin on the PS.  However, there are still three more preseason games to go.  We'll see what happens.

I'm officially on the Damiere Byrd train. (I mean I have been for awhile) Bersin has proven himself as a reliable contributor. He has great hands and has a chemistry with Cam and DA. To people that say Bersin sucks... you're a hater.

But Damiere Byrd's speed in the return game is special enough to give him a spot on this roster. I'd still keep Ted Ginn as a punt returner, but in the kickoff.... his speed can literally swing the momentum of a game in one play. Field position is a huge part of this game, and giving our offense great field position means points.

Bersin is a hometown hero and I think he's great insurance in the instance that a receiver gets hurt. But Damiere Byrd has the type of playmaking ability that can change a game in a very short time. I don't think that his dropped punt last night drops his status. He literally had 113 yards of productivity last night and the coaches seem to really like him.  I really hope we find a way to keep them both.

How likely is it that we carry 6 receivers?  Whose the odd man out?

you have to keep bersin as of now

    • We don't have to tear down Dak to appreciate what Bryce did yesterday. Dak had 0 running game. If the cowboys were better, he'd be a legit MVP candidate if he keeps playing this way.  They did it with Ceedee last year, but they do a better job of anybody we play consistently of getting their best receiver off Jaycee.  Bryce was good too. If we just catch the ball that was intercepted, we probably win by 7+, and Bryce goes over 200 yards passing.  Biggest shift the last few weeks has been play calling. I thought Canales abandoned the run game way to early at times last year. This year he really seems to be sticking with it.  I still think Chuba is better at making 4 yards when there's nothing there, but Rico is better at making 30 yards when there's 6 there. I like the direction. Hopefully we can get Moton, Sanders and Coker back and really be dangerous. Our play action game is pretty deadly right now.  Unrelated: My favorite quality about Bryce right now is his ability to see the defensive hold and throw the ball there. He EXPOSES the officials when they don't call it. That one on Tetaroia yesterday late in the game was a bad miss on their part.
    • That sacks allowed number lookin juicy!
    • This is a game the Panthers should win... just the sort of game they lose. The Panthers have a bad habit that goes back years of playing down to the competition's level only to mess around and lose the game. The Jets game should be taken very seriously! But I want to enjoy the fact that they beat the Cowboys for at least another day or so!
