Ron Rivera

Recommended Posts

Just watching the video of Ron discussing Stephen Hill and other topics.

What stood out to me in the interview was talking about the Preseason game with New England.  Missing opportunities was such a key element and he was saying those were correctable mistakes.   But what makes Rivera stand out more than any other coach and what I believe makes this team great.  Was the statement that it falls on the Coaches to put the players in the right spot to succeed.  NEVER throws a player under the bus and puts part of the problem on the coaches.  This feeds into the team atmosphere that we have in Carolina.  It is what makes the locker room one of the best in the business.  Two great players  Peanut Tillman and Jared Allen both confirm this.

It took a couple of years but Rivera, the two time Coach of the year, has made Carolina a place players want to come.

If he were ever to be fired.  He would be scooped up so fast our heads would spin.

I am glad he is OUR Head Coach.

Just think, some of us wanted (me included) Jim Harbaugh. If that had happened, we would already have another coach.I know, who knows, different timelines...

But I also was not disappointed when we got Rivera either. So it has worked out for everyone.

I remember the conversations that if we hired Harbaugh then Luck would leave Stanford and join Jim in Carolina.

LUCK ily for us.  He went to San Fran and they Got the sleeper of the Draft Colin Kaepernick.

I thought Rivera should have had a chance after Chicago went to the Super Bowl.  When he went to San Diego and turned their defense around I knew he was right up there with Harbaugh, for me at least.

I am glad Hurney signed him.

And to think, sooooo many people were calling for his head.  J-Rich knew what he had, and he made sure to put Getty in a position to discover that Ron "Chico" Rivera was the best guy for the job as well. Patience and belief were the keys, the proper way to build upon a capstone of raw talent, as necessary as water to seeds in a garden.

True story I started a Madden Franchise John Fox's last year as head coach here. The next year the team randomly chose Ron Rivera as head coach. With me leading as a tall athletic quarterback needless to say the Panthers got a lot of winning done. I'm taking 0% of the credit for the Panthers success of course I just find it coincidental.

Maybe Hurney saw your team and the rest is history.

Thanks for all you have done for our wonderful Panthers.

    • I mean, if Moore really wants out, then it would behoove the Bears to make it happen sooner than later. X is a lot younger and cheaper, and may be a better fit for Johnson's musings than a disgruntled, unnecessary, overpaid vet. If they can dump his salary and maybe get a fourth or so in return, it may be worth it to them. As for development, I'm not concerned. You're talking about a seeming bust, a day three guy and a UDFA. They are developing relative to their ceilings. I doubt any of them will ever command the coverage, money, or the respect that Moore has acquired. He's a tier above them. Yes, even X.
    • IMO, if Ceedee plays against us, the game probably goes the other way. Same with Tyreek Hill and the Dolphins. Our team just isn't designed to beat teams with two high level receivers like that. But when you look at the league, how many teams really have two guys of that caliber?  There's nothing wrong with defensive adjustments, but sometimes I think a lot of fans want Evero to call a different play like a game on madden, and defensive football just isn't like that. That said, I thought we did a much better job this season against the Cowboys of flipping Jaycee and at least making them work for it, opposed to last season when they literally just lined CeeDee up on the other side of the field every single snap.  For us to just straight up switch to consistent man coverage, or a different zone, or whatever, we likely would consistently need different personnel on the field. Doing it a few times a game is a gamble and can work, but if we consistently run man coverage against the Cowboys, eventually a RB is going to beat a linebacker, or something of that nature with our personnel. Part of the reason Evero likes this scheme is that, while we have our defaults and presets, what we do is very multiple, and you can do a lot of different things pre and post snap. We are a challenging defense to read. But as you said, if guys are getting beat, it doesn't really matter what you call.
