Experienced the worst pain I have ever felt today

I watched every single Panthers game of the 2010 season, no anesthesia or anything aside from lots of beer.  Every snap to Jimmy Clausen's tiny hands sent a waive of nausea and pain reverberating through my body. This pain was accentuated by the realization that I was staring at the worst offense ever assembled, ever. As if that wasn't bad enough, my condition was worsened by having to watch Godfrey and Martin man the safety positions. I don't know how I made it through that year.

I have a nice scar these days.

I keep imagining you telling a girl at a bar about this bad ass scar (chicks dig em, amirite!) and then proceeding to show her the scar.  Of course, she had no idea it was on your toe, so then the situation just becomes awkward when you lift your foot to prove that you have a scar.

Back pain, by far the worst for me so far.

I have had both toenails taken off, sprained ankles and knees, broken kneecap, shattered wrist with bone grafts, concussions, ruptured ear drums, tons and tons of stitches, kidney stones, multiple broken fingers and toes, copperhead bite in the worst of places, had my ear torn from my head...etc.....and nothing compares to back pain.

I don't know which year was worse...that one or the one where Weinke was our starting QB and we won our first game...only to lose 15 straight.

After having sprained my knee late in the summer, I managed to tear my meniscus two weeks ago.

Never have I ever felt pain like that before. Beats the time I had an anesthetic shot from a big gauge needle in the nerve trunk in my left armpit before a surgery. Should have known that was going to be bad when they said they were going to give me a shot of valium before the local anesthetic. But the knee going out... amazing how bad that was.

What do you mean in the worst of places?

I've been pretty lucky...

Broke my arm when I was a kid... don't remember it hurting too bad

Had the same muscle lock up in my mid-lower back two different times... Had to get a steroid injection for one of them for the pain and to get it to relax the muscle.

Broke a middle toe tripping over a vacuum cleaner cord in my teens.

Fell 15' out of a tree once and landed with my foot turned to the side under me... only ended up with a hairline fracture and severe sprain, both in my ankle (it swelled up bigger than a softball, though.)

Got a pretty bad scrape/scar (2" wide by like 5" long, gone now thankfully) to the shin when I was in my pre-teens. My sister and I were taking a mini-bike down my grandparents' driveway/path and we hit a spot of loose gravel doing about 25 and ate it. I went over the handlebars and sis went over me... but she was unscathed, lol.

Ate it on a bicycle once in my teens by hitting a pothole in the asphalt going down a hill... Dang near broke an elbow that time but didn't.. still got a scar from that one, and it took weeks to get all the rocks out.

So nothing too severe. I grew up in the country and it wasn't uncommon to catch minor injuries here and there, but I haven't been through too much physical pain.

Worst pain for me was a tooth implant that the nurse forgot to numb me for because she was too busy gossiping with the other nurse. A hole was drilled into the gum (tooth already removed weeks ago) all the way to the bone. Luckily, they didn't drill all the way into the bone before I grabbed the arm of the doctor and luckily I didn't fug up my mouth or face. Nurse got fired. And I said fug that and demanded to be put under to do the rest.

You know the pain is bad when your body involuntarily flinches, and you get sick and feel yourself going unconscious/into shock.

Ummm, was fighting fire when I felt a burning sensation like none I have ever experienced....and in a place where you never want a burning sensation.  Not on it, but awfully close.

Bugger had gotten into my turnout and hung around for a while before getting pissed about being in there...I was actually manning a 2 1/2 inch line keeping a church cool from the radiant heat coming from the structure fire beside it.....actually put the nozzle in my coat and cracked open the valve to "cool it down" thinking a piece of hot metal had somehow falling inside my turnout.

Could have been a lot worse, but was bad enough as it was.

Copperhead got into my turnout gear at the firehouse.  I respond to firehouse after getting a "smoke showing" from the dispatch, and put on said turnout.  Go to fight fire.  20 minutes later snake gets mad and lashes out.  I am the recipient of lash.

Finally pain is bad enough I strip out of everything and start sprinting toward the truck.  After I am clear of the gear, snake comes out.  We kill the snake, and he goes with me to the hospital.

yeah i understood, that's just insane. i guess you don't think to shake out turnout gear before climbing into it. how did you even get into it without squishing it right off the bat?

Turnout is pretty baggy/loose, plenty of space in there for a snake.  I'm guessing he was in a leg of it and came northward trying to get out.  I was on my knees sitting on the 2 1/2 so I could control it.  There was no way to get out past my knees.

Nah, you don't shake out the turnout.  The boots stay in it, and they pile up around the tops of the boots.  All you do is step into the boots, grab the suspenders and pull up as you stand up fully.  It comes up to about the bottom of your rib cage, then you throw on the coat and airpack on top of that.

I can't fight fire any longer (miss it), but that always made me a little nervous every time I got in them from then  on.  I can't imagine being in the desert where scorpions are around......

    • With Schoen and Dan Morgan being tight I’d figure we knew this was coming and since he is released, Dan didn’t bite.    But, a quick search says this is at least 80% cap related. They have No cap space and save 8 or 9 million with releasing him.  He has been a captain his entire time there. 145 tackles this year.  They are picking 5th with a new staff and looking at Styles. Hitting that age 30 season and had a disc issue last year (meaning 2024) that did not require surgery.  I haven’t really watched him play but he activated the antennae.
    • OK, we are letting our top RB go.  We have Chuba, Etienne, and Brooks.  Imagine a player who could LEGITIMATELY play the slot and back up at RB?  I am sure he'd be a special team player as well.  I noticed him at the combine, and thought, "Here is a late rounder who could stand out as a slot and provide depth at RB. Without further ado....(I know one Huddler who might be able to tell us more about this guy): Navy running back/wide receiver Eli Heidenreich headlined the 2026 NFL Combine for the Midshipmen, running an official 4.44-second 40-yard dash and recording 16 reps on the bench press. Recognized as a versatile, "Swiss army knife" offensive weapon, Heidenreich solidified his draft stock as a potential day three target.    Eli Heidenreich (RB/WR - Navy) 2026 Combine Performance: 6'0" 200 lbs.   40-Yard Dash: 4.44 seconds. 10-Yard Split: 1.55 seconds. Vertical Jump: 35.5 inches. Broad Jump: 10' 0". Bench Press: 16 Reps. Highlights: Showcased as a premier receiving threat from the backfield, having left Navy as the program's all-time leader in receiving yards (1,994). High character.  Smart.  Maybe, just maybe....
