Will you be watching the game Thursday?

Many of us prioritize our time around watching the Panthers. It's football season right? Only 16 chances to watch our favorite team go at it for a short sliver of the year.

I haven't missed watching a Panthers game by choice since 2001. Obviously I've missed games for situations out of my control (work, travel, etc). Even in 2010 I tuned in for all the games I could. That year was easier to understand. I knew the Panthers were bad. It was comical and I knew better days were coming.

I don't feel that way this year. This year is hard to understand. I could rail off a list of reasons, but something is seriously wrong with the team this season. This is a team that went 15-1, featured the MVP of the league, and appeared in the Super Bowl just a season ago. I am struggling to watch what was such an exciting team unravel into an inexplicable mess. So this Thursday, I will not be watching the game.

I honestly don't care if the team wins or loses at this point. If they win, great. I'm not any more or less of a fan. If they lose, I've saved myself the time and emotional turmoil of watching another embarrassing Panthers loss.

Call me fair-weather or what you will, but I need a break from this team. I'll probably watch the following week. Will you be watching this Thursday?

Not only will I be there, I'm getting up at 3am to catch an early flight home from Vegas so I can land in time to run to the house, grab my jersey and head to BofA to sit in my seat. You're god damn right I'll be watching. Keep Pounding bitches. Bad Panther football is better than no Panther football. And we are 7 weeks away from no Panthers football until August of 2017.

Honestly, I might take a break. It's one thing to watch as we lose when expectations are relatively low. But, it's another thing to watch your team repeatedly snatch defeat from the jaws of victory when we were widely considered to be a top contender going into the season.

At some point, you gotta take a break or resign yourself to apathy and fug apathy.

That's where I'm at man. I've passed up things to watch Panthers football many times over the years. I felt I was rewarded for that last year. Now we're right back to the same old Panthers, but I'm not as hopeful we will see the reward any time soon again.

I'll definitely watch.  Got $50ish I think in my FanDuel account...and I imagine I will be forced to play a lot of Saints.  My two best weeks were when I went all in on Atlanta and NO vs us. Every legit pass attack is a must play.  Probably will use Cam too though.

    • I see progress and improvements. We aren't the same team we were even at the beginning of this year. You want to harp on the past while I am all about the present and future. Do I know thinks are going to be great moving forward? Actually I don't but I prefer to look at the good instead of the bad. Since he is surely going to be the QB the rest of this year barring injury, I am going to root for him to succeed instead of fail. I always said if we are going to finish at 500 for the year I prefer we win at home since I will be there and want to see wins and crying opposing fans like the cowboys. So far mission accomplished. Now we have to show we can win on the road.
    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
