Cam Newton goal line sack is on him.

Yeah, that was a bad one. Still wish we had just lined up and ran the ball three times from the one. You have cam and J stew..  Let them do what they do

Yep, should have pounded it in on four straight plays if we needed to. That's who we are, I hate when we get cute at the worst possible time.

I remember when we ran that EXACT play last year (I forgot against who), but Cam ultimately came all the way back to his 3rd read with a defender in his face and layed it out perfectly to Dickson. Cam just isn't seeing the field as good as last year. Partly is due to O-line, other part is due to lack of focus and pre-snap reads. Just hasn't been going through his progressions quick this year.

Ed Dickson all alone in the end zone for an easy one. Cam keyed in on Olsen.

Yes, even Cam Newton makes mistakes like every other NFL QB.

Damn it.

But how do you know that the play design didn't make Olsen and Tolbert (also going out for a pass in the flat, but held up by the defense) his #1 and #2 reads?  If they were, how was he supposed to go to #3 (Dickson) with the pressure coming up in his face and the unseen pressure coming from his backside?

Yes, this well could have been Cam's "bad" read.  But are you sure the play design didn't contribute to the failure?

Cam locked on.

He has to be quicker, especially when the O line is suspect.  This is an NFL MVP, top 5 paid QB, 6 year vet we are talking about here.  The play was there, and Cam missed it.

He just flat out has regressed this season.  Still a great player, but he needs to be better...just like everyone out there not named Lee, Star, and Kuechly this season.

Great QB's see the field much quicker. That is an Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady TD 10 times out of 10. Cam has to improve in this area.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
