Steve Wyche: Negative Vibe Inside of Panther's Organization

Its interesting isn't it.

While watching Sound Fx on the NFL Network...Mike Smith was wired for sound during the Panthers/Falcons game. He was energetic. He was totally locked-in to his players. He called the TDs before they happened. He was emtional. He was having FUN.

I also found it interesting that at the end of the game. Steve Smith walked over to Mike Smith, hugged him and said, 'I have a dogsh*t pile of respect for you. You are a great coach'.

I wonder, the last time Steve Smith ever said that to Fox?

Do the Panthers, or coaches, or their fans, ever look like they are consistenly having fun? I don't see it. There is no 'verve' with this team and has not been in so long, that when we have it once or twice (like the beat down of the Bucs), its like, that's our season.

I watched parts of the Bears/Steelers. Oh my God, what physical teams. The Panthers play scared on defense and that is the HUGE problem. The Defense in the NFL sets the tone for the team and the fans...something to be proud of, or not...that big hit, that big stop, makes a lot of things tolerable and gives hope to the fans and the offense.

Too often, our defense just deflats, and in my opinion, it reflects the coach we have.

John Fox, 7 years ago was young and hungry. John Fox today, is older and content.

He's just 'glad to be here'.

Good lord, JR is a great owner. Hires people to do the work and steps away from the day to day decision. He makes no decisions on who to sign and who to release. He hires people and delegates, unlike Jones and Davis.

We could not ask for a better franchise owner than JR. Now squash it.

Aren't you grateful for all these experts on human behavior that you have posting on your site? :)

I would say, last year was the most fun i've had as a panther fan since its inception. Excluding the playoff game of course.

If this is true, then why has the fan experience degraded so far? For the last few years, fans on here have joked about the lame experience at BOA with the ads and dorky fight song. Now, they are saying that things have gotten so bad that they can't take it any more and want to sell their PSLs. No one would have said that 5 or even 3 years ago.

Why has the product on the field gotten so bad, that we could tell during the first preseason game that we have a miserable team? It's gotten to the point that I don't expect the Panthers to win. I've been disappointed with their weak, uninspired play so many times that I'm at a point of learned helplessness. I'll watch and cheer for them, but I'm not getting my hopes up anymore. If they win, it's a bonus.

This is an issue of culture throughout the organization. The Panthers are just not a fun team. They don't win consistently. They don't talk or cater to their fans. They're boring and predictable to watch (a running team can be exciting if they play hard and tough). The stadium is becoming more and more like church. The culture of this organization is set by one man. As long as he's in charge, this is what we'll get. No, he's not an idiot like Al Davis or Jerry Jones. But, boring football and a stale fan experience are not whole lot of fun either. What have they done to get us excited? Anything?

I have never agreed with you more.

I've been a PSL holder since day one, and right now I'm trying to decide if I need to buy two more or wait. It's still a great experience, and one for which I gladly shell out money every year.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
