Dave Gettleman, Norman, & The Divison

This is all Dave Gettleman's fault if we would have kept Norman for the franchise tag we would have won the games against Tampa, New Orleans, & ATL. We wouldn't have been in do or die situation at the end of the season vs  quality teams.

Only if he would have drafted Hunter Henry :(

Josh Norman offered to sign Panthers tender, but was too late

SAN JOSE, CA - FEBRUARY 01: Josh Norman #24 of the Carolina Panthers addresses the media at Super Bowl Opening Night Fueled by Gatorade at SAP Center on February 1, 2016 in San Jose, California. (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images)Getty Images

Josh Norman fired an agent after he was unable to get a deal with the Panthers for more than a year.

And if he’d have trusted his own counsel, he’d have taken a much smaller deal.

According to a blow-by-blow account of Norman’s signing in Washington by Mike Jones and Master Tesfatsion of the Washington Post, Norman went back to the Panthers after firing agent Michael George and tried to sign the one-year, $13.95 million tender himself, only to find out he was too late.

Thus, with new representation Ryan Williams, he had to settle for a five-year, $75 million deal with $36.5 million (not $50 million) in guarantees.

The fact Norman was willing to crawl back to the Panthers after what had been a contentious process behind the scenes was telling.

Panthers General Manager Dave Gettleman had a air of exasperation when he announced the move, saying it was obvious they were never going to agree on a long-term deal (especially not after Norman had declared himself one of the top five corners of all time and they responded with an $11 million a year offer).

But Norman apparently wasn’t lying all last season when he insisted he wanted to stay with the Panthers, not if he was willing to forego a chance at an open and lucrative market for one more ride with what amounted to his hometown team.

The story also suggests Panthers coaches were unaware of what was going on, and suspected there was more to Gettleman’s move than financial reasons. Coach Ron Rivera offered a tepid “I trust Dave,” last Thursday, but the news that he could have gone into this season without a gaping hole in his secondary has to be galling to a guy who helped develop Norman into one of the league’s top corners.

Matt Ryan shredded Carolina's defense, passing for a team-record 503 yards and four touchdowns, Julio Joneshad 12 receptions for a Falcons-record 300 yards, and Atlanta beat the struggling Panthers 48-33 on Sunday.

The Falcons (3-1) began the day leading the NFL in scoring and total offense. They were rarely stopped by Carolina, even when pinned back close to their own goal line. They scored touchdowns after beginning drives on their 2- and 1-yard lines.

Offensively he didn't do nothing to improve the team knowing the weakness with offensive tackles. He could have drafted Hunter Henry or used a 4th round pick on Martellus Bennett and helped the OTs out while not giving the defense any que whether its a run or a pass play

The Patriots weren't very active when free agency started on March 9, but they're making up for it big time in the trade department. For the second day in a row that Patriots have pulled off a trade that should upgrade their offense.

The Patriots have announced that they've obtained tight end Martellus Bennett and a 2016 sixth-round pick from the Bears. In exchange for Bennett and the sixth-rounder, Chicago will get a 2016 fourth-round pick from the Patriots.

Here's three things to know about the trade.

1. New England's offense is now loaded. If the Patriots' offensive line can figure out how to protect Tom Brady in 2016, the 38-year-old should be able to put up some huge numbers. Brady loves throwing to his tight ends and with the addition of Bennett, Brady almost definitely will make defenses pay if they decide to double-team Rob Gronkowski.

The last time Brady had two Pro Bowl-caliber players at tight end, he was nearly unstoppable. From 2010-12, the Patriots quarterback had both Aaron Hernandez and Gronk, and in those three years, Brady had one of the best stretches of his career, winning the NFL MVP award in 2010 and following that up with a career-high 5,235 passing yards in 2011.

In Bennett, the Patriots will be getting a tight end who made the Pro Bowl in 2014 after a season that included 916 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Bennett has finished with at least 600 receiving yards and five touchdowns in three of his past four seasons.

Besides Gronk and Bennett, Brady also has reliable weapons in Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman and running back Dion Lewis, who's expected to be 100 percent healthy once the 2016 season starts.

2. The terms of the trade. As mentioned above, the Bears will receive New England's fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. The Patriots won't just be getting Bennett but also receive a 2016 sixth-round pick from the Bears.

For the Bears, the move will instantly free up $5.2 million in salary cap space, which means they'll have just over $30 million in cap room once the trade's official. Getting rid of Bennett wasn't a complete shocker. 3. Why all the trades for New England? Brady might think he'll be playing in the NFL until he's 45, but based on these recent trades, it doesn't seem like the Patriots are banking on that. Bill Belichick seems to understand that the Patriots' window of winning another title is shrinking by the year, so the Patriots coach is doing whatever possible to make sure New England wins at least one more title with Brady.

Money in the bank, L's on the column. Time frame doens't mean poo.

He never intended on having him in the first place just was a facade play with the Tag.

was worth the pricey one-year tender.

Despite not coming to a long-term agreement, most teams would retain an All-Pro player, for at least one more season. However, NFL Media's Jeff Darlington reported the Panthersdidn't think the looming distraction of an inevitable holdout was worth the pricey one-year tender.

Gettleman's stance on "shutdown corners," especially in the Panthers' system, could also shed some light on the decision.

"Shutdown corner is a misnomer. There's very few of them. It's so hard. You can't cover forever," Gettleman told Black and Blue Review's Bill Voth last season. "If there's no pass rush, there's no shutdown corners."

2 divison game loss keeps you out of the wildcard

Quote

Giants- Vernon, Jenkins, Harrison 8-3

Redskins- Norman, Cousins(franchise tag) 6-4

Texans- Osweiler, Miller 6-5

Raiders-Osemele, S. Smith, Irvin 9-2

Falcons-Sanu, Shelby, Mack 7-4

Ravens- Weddle, Wallace 6-5

I respect Gettleman and he forgot more football then all of us know about the game combined. But this game changes and being a GM is a young man's game, he's going to need to adapt to the market moving forward as these respective teams went out and did what they needed to do to get better, they spent money and didn't just put it in a savings bond

Yes, it's gettleman's fault for Luke being injured

It's his fault that 4 out of 5 of our Olinemen were either out of position or 2nd/3rd stringers

It's his fault our best pass rushing DE got injured and is out

It's his fault we lost most of our games by a field goal or less

It's his fault we collapse in the 4th quarter and blow or nearly blow leads

It's his fault that most of our secondary was injured pre bye week and we were barely making due

It's his fault that Stewart was injured for a lot of pre bye week games when desperately needed

It's his fault that Cam got concussed and was out for Tampa Bay

It's his fault that we have a huge amount of free agents in 2017 that could be lost if we didn't have all this cap

It's his fault that he's considering the future, and doesn't want us to only have one more season left.

Now explain why Norman wouldn't sign the franchise tag.

Because it is a standard move guys who want contracts make? They refuse to sign initially to hold out on the possibilty of a deal getting done.  Happens all the time.

The guy to whom I responded had it as a given that Norman was going to sign the franchise tag.

Norman was NEVER going to sign the franchise tag.

You and Rainmaker may make up in your dreams that Norman was going to sign the franchise tag, but that doesn't make it real.

He either was going to sign it, or sit out a year.  I doubt he would have chose the latter.

The Panthers' secondary was an issue before Norman's exit. Slot corner Bene' Benwikere is coming off injury and aging Charles Tillman is still a free agent. The team added slot corner Brandon Boykin this offseason, but did little else to address the position.

With Norman leaving, there is now an even bigger hole to fill on the Panthers' back end.

Josh Norman was willing to sign the tender which has been discussed multiple times via miscoummnication with the agent.

D.G.  fat ego FUPA came in the way bascially and cost us about 3 games.  Hell we could have probably won the Denver game.

Know how I know he was never going to sign it?

Because he never signed it nor did he ever show any indication of signing it.

You, however, may keep dreaming in your Lollipop Dreams and CandyLand Wishes that Norman was going to sign the franchise tag.
