Is Kony Ealy a bust?

Gettleman is holding him back until we sign him for a 4 year $10million contract, then he'll break out with a 40 sack, 10int return for td's season.

Bust?  No, not in my opinion.  He was a 2nd rounder, but was selected at the tail end of it.

Frustrating?  Absolutely.

 

When you look back at that draft, the next three players selected seem like better Pro's than Kony, (Robinson is having a down year) but after that I don't see anyone that I would have loved to have outside of Moses possibly....but then you see the next player that I would love to have gotten there.....Turner.  We ended up getting him anyway.

In the end, Landry would have probably been the better choice there, but Kony has a chance to turn it around.

He did have a pretty memorable Super Bowl performance and has played well at times, so no he isn't a complete bust. A complete bust is someone like Eric Shelton if any Panthers fans remember him. File Ealy under "disappointing"

probably. very streaky player. any time you have to keep a guy like that on the bench to start games "to take some of the pressure off" you've probably got a major disappointment on your hands.

just one of many abject failures this season.

Malcolm Smith was a Superbowl MVP and no one thinks that he is good. So him probably getting MVP doesn't mean poo if you dont produce at a consistent level.

If it took Charles Johnson 4 years to have it click I'm not sure why we shouldn't give Ealy the same leniency. Although Hardy had a coming out party his 3rd year his monster season was also his 4th.

I was bored and started looking at statistics for some of the best DEs in the league (Bennett, Avril, C. Campbell) and NONE had huge years their first 3 years. Watt is an outlier. 

 Not saying he has the same skills. Just saying that it would be moronic to give up on him at this point considering known past player development.

if he had a breakout season next year and set himself up for a huge extension at a premier position ala josh norman that would be almost as bad
