KK's agent makes a call??

It's already been shown on here that one of the top DT's in the league, Donald, had 8 or 9 sacks. KK had 6. KK, with his last 2 seasons of work, has shown he's worthy of being paid as a top 5 DT.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Honestly Dave flubbing the Norman situation and it backfiring so horribly this season is only going to give Short more leverage. Dave honestly can't afford to let him go. If he does and we're bad again its going to be a 'bath.

I think he will be here. First of all the tag on Norman ate up much of our cap room last year. This year it won't make a huge dent. Secondly if he lets KK walk after we led the league in sacks and doesn't sign Addison he risks his own position if we go 6-10 again because he went cheap. Plus imagine the fan reaction, which usually is ignored as irrelevant but when it cuts into merchandise, alcohol and food sales when nobody comes to the game is a big deal. With attendance down despite the PSL sellouts, and all the above sales not being shared with the league it makes what will likely be a 2 million yearly difference between the two sides a small price to pay as long as the guaranteed money is reasonable.

If he thinks Addison is worth the investment I have no doubt he will pay Addison well.   It's not being cheap to refuse  to overpay for any position just for fan approval.   Winning cures all.  I agree that if they go 6-10 next year there will be more than just Dave's ass on the hot seat.

Obviously fan opinion shouldn't dictate the front office moves but the fans vote with their wallets and shouldn't be ignored either. Gettleman has been great getting us out of cap hell. What he hasn't shown is an ability to manage a successful franchise year after year. After 2013 at 12-4 we go 7-8-1 and after 2015 at 15-1 we go 6-10. A big part of that was not retaining key components of our team and replacing them with rookies and jags. If he has learned his lesson he will realize that veteran leadership and veteran skill are valuable and worth the couple of million extra it takes to sign them.

Addison, Short and Ginn all need to be resigned.

KK is a top 5 DT, and someone will pay him as such. I hope it's us.

If DG had no intention of resigning KK, it was MONUMENTALLY STUPID not to shop him for a trade this year. I mean... can anyone here defend that? At least with Norman last year, we were in the midst of a Super Bowl run. This year? Not so much.

Oh I'm sure he intends to sign KK.  But if KK pulls a Josh I won't fault Dave if he takes a pass on tagging him.   He'll get at least a comp pick in return if KK makes bank somewhere else.   If he can shop KK he will but KK has to be on board with it and sign the tag.

Gettleman removing the tag may have set a bad precedent. Norman got to walk and make big $$ because the Skins are dumb enough to splurge. KK might refuse to sign the tag in the hope of getting his market value from another team.

^This

I'm not sure what happened behind the scenes but most players would love for the team to resend the tag.  The tag is leverage for the team , not the player in most circumstances.

I still think the Hardy fiasco might have influenced the teams decision somewhat.  I'm not saying Josh would have had any off the field issues like Hardy but just other distractions.  I think DG decided that they and Norman were never going to decide on a long term deal so why go thru a year of potential tag drama.  Unfortunately like Pantherphan96 said that can create a really bad precedent.  Every agent now is going to try and tell their player not to sign the tag and maybe the team will let you look around.

As it turned out it is probably a good thing we didn't keep Norman on the tag.  I don't think Norman would have saved this season.  To many injuries and poor play in other places.  Wehave an extra $14m to use now.

In regards to KK I would think he and his agent are going to expect between 15-17m a year for 5 years.

DG is probably in the 13-15m range.  Usually you put the tag on the player and see who budges.  Worst case the player plays under the tag.  Very rarely does a player actually sit out.  A lot of the times the two parties find some common ground.  Signing now gives the player some security at a bit of a discount.  If the player doesn't sign then they increase their chance of bigger payday the following year when they most likely will hit the open market.  That is contingent on them not getting hurt or their play declining drastically.

Buy low, sell high.  Halfway through the year his stock was plummeting and we'd have received no cap relief due to his cheap current deal.  Trading him before the season wouldn't have made sense in many ways but would have made sense in other ways-in retrospect it would have definitely been the time to do it, on day 2 of the draft last year after taking Butler and after Chandler Jones and his baggage still netted a former top 10 OL and a 2nd round pick.

Key word is "sell." If KK walks without us getting any compensation, then we won't be "selling" - we will be "donating." It would have even been better to trade him for a 3rd than to walk away with nothing.

We would have to sign/tag and trade. We will almostcertianly get a 2018 3ed comp pick in return.... that weve already spent on a punter.
