I would rather have Ed Dickson any day--he shows up and he can block.

Ed Dickson can't block worth a damn. He has been a sub par Tight End by any estimation. A waste of a good roster spot. This time last year (cited only because they apparently haven't come out with an article this year), PFF told us all what we already should know based upon the eye test:

"Unfortunately, Dickson ended up grading out as the worst blocker at his position this season, his fourth consecutive year with a negative outlook in that regard from Pro Football Focus. He also failed to move the needle in Carolina’s aerial attack, gaining just 7.1 yards per reception, the second-lowest mark among tight ends with at least 25 targets."

Do you actually believe 2016 was better or worse for Dickson? Of course he is not going to be on this list regarding 2016, but guess who was? And I don't give a poo if it's for fantasy because that means offensive production

Injuries injuries injuries have been JT's main problem thus far in his career. As such, I doubt he demands top dollar.

Ok, ok, I was in a hurry.  Still, I'll take a cheap guy that can't block over an expensive one that is going to be overpaid somewhere else.

After reading up on JT, I think that it's important to note that at the moment, his release is still just conjecture. But, people also need to realize that other than money, he is just not a good fit for what the Jags have been doing.

The Jaguars will not bring tight end Julius Thomas back. He has been a disappointment since signing a five-year, $46 million ($24 million guaranteed) contract in March 2015 and has missed 11 games in two seasons due to various injuries. He does have nine touchdown catches, but the Jaguars have him catching short passes and trying to turn up field and break tackles when he's more successful down the field and on seam routes. Jacksonville didn't miss him when he was out of the lineup for the final four games. He also has the fourth-highest cap figure ($8.3 million) in 2017.

If he is cut, and if we could get him relatively cheaply, he would be an upgrade to any TE not named Olsen, no matter how you slice it.

But, again, I can take him or leave him. We had better do something legit behind Olsen though, be cause Dickson ain't it, and never was.

Agreed...he fits our system well and we could use another big guy to go get those high passes.....his speed is better than Olsens who also doesn't break tackles for poo....so he could be even more dangerous here than anywhere else like Ginn is.

    • it helps that Bryce and Tmac worked out a bit this off-season before the draft and are familiar with each other's game from way back.  Sure Bryce put in a good word for him to the coaching crew ahead of time That california connection goin' work, I hope
    • Sign but make it mostly incentive driven contract
    • My biggest problem is I think the players he likes don't really work in the modern NFL.  You mentioned the wr room being a lot better, is it?  It has the potential to be.   Last year when we traded up to get Legette, they said they traded up to take him specifically because he was a true X receiver.   Now this year they take TMac because they say he is and that XL was out of posisition last year.  Im not sold on Tmac yet just like I wasn't sold on XL last year.  If TMac isn't a lot better than last XL was last season then that's back to back first rounders in one position that would still need a huge amount of work.  Hopefully Tmac is what everyone seems to think he will be, I'm just not so sure, but them declaring XL was a true X receiver after the draft last year and what they're saying now should at least give you pause about their receivers evaluation because it means they definitely made a mistake one way or another.
