They played great in the final few minutes. In reality though, they had two huge lucky breaks in Goss rolling his ankle in the final few minutes probably had something to do with him getting his decisive shot blocked late in the game. And having Gonzaga's big dude , not karnowski the other guy Dickie V couldn't stop slurping the entire broadcast, him being out for a a huge portion of the 2nd half had to have been a huge factor as well. I mean these things happen and by no means should people say that it was simply luck that UNC won the game, but I'm just saying you have to acknowledge that these factors probably played a huge role in the victory especially in such a close game.

UNC , they shot abysmally for the most part but played hard and hit some decisisve shots that they needed to make and played incredible defense when in the last minute.

You want to talk about goss' ankle that was busted for 1 minute? C'mon man. Both of Berry's ankles were busted the whole tourney. All the games we got lucky we had 1 thing in common....great fugging defense in the last few minutes. #CLUTCH and that is why we are champs, you dont get extra points for being pretty.

they could have called this dude for a walk at least twice (they didn't) and could have fouled him out of the game if the refs wanted. He is a big ol boy but got his lunch money taken from him today by Kennedy Meeks.

Yep never been bodied like that before, that was why those shots were slightly off. I said that would be the case before the game.

To me it was ugly because of all the tacky tack fouls though, and not the actual game. Anyway, congratulations to the Tar Heels. They deserve this.

For sure.  The shooting on both ends was bad but nobody had a chance to get into any rhythm with the refs controlling the game.

agree with this post. He has some game and will get a look from NBA teams, but, he hadn't been challenged like that before and you could tell. Refs even bailed him out a couple times with foul calls that could have easily not been called.

I was listening to a lot of national sports dudes today at work on radio, common theme was that UNC could struggle because this is a game where we wouldn't have our usual big advantage in paint. While that take isn't 100% wrong, I just thought it was ironic that they dismissed the fact that the UNC bigs would easily be the best front court that the Zags had seen all season. It's a two way street.

the officiating last year vs nova was entirely one sided. They let Nova play borderline street ball and were whistling UNC for every little thing. It killed us and directly influenced the game. The officiating was poor tonight AGAIN but at least the bad calls were consistent on both sides of court. But yeah, the refs made sure everyone watching knew that they were apart of the game as well.

ACC officiating has been horrible for a while. It's my main point in why I think home teams in ACC have such a huge advantage. Refs get caught up in emotion of home crowd and feed into their energy.

    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
    • There's a reason Greg Maddux was never a flamethrower but still one of the most feared pitchers of all time, because accuracy beats velocity far more often then vice versa. Once you exceed a certain minimum capability, you can thrive with extreme traits elsewhere, its not strictly about power in any sport but powerlifting.
