As of Wednesday, teams are allowed to use the franchise tag until March 1 and that will put attention on teams with key players heading for free agency in the next couple of weeks.

One team in that position is the Texans, who have cornerback A.J. Bouye on track to hit the open market after a strong 2016 season. As of now, though, it doesn’t look like they’ll be using it.

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans are unlikely to use their tag on Bouye or anyone else from the team. Doing so would set Bouye up to make over $14 million for the 2017 season and the Texans are projected to have in the neighborhood of $25 million of cap space to work with this offseason.

Bouye played in 15 games and made 11 starts for the Texans last year and led the team with 16 passes defensed. He had one regular season interception, added two more in the playoffs and will likely draw plenty of interest on the open market after showing well in coverage throughout the season.

Seriously? Bradberry and Worley are our starting corners next year, guaranteed. If we were going to invest cap space in the CB position we would've just paid Josh. Likely we look at nickel backs and depth on the outside but we're not signing a starting corner.

I mean, if somebody better than Worley falls into our laps late in the draft, UDFA or some back end free agent, then by all means I'm thrilled about that. But Worley fits what we do, improved tremendously over the course of last year and will likely be better than anyone we bring in without paying a boatload to. Get ready to see him next year, and if he continues to improve, for the next 3 years along with Bradberry. Hoping to get Captain to shore up the nickel spot.

      I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.

      Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.

      Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
