A lot of credit needs to go to our scout team.  Which Gettleman didn't replace when he arrived.

Absolutely. Though Gettleman is the guy pulling the trigger.

I have a feeling we'll get a potential pro bowler this year. Hopefully Bradberry will continue his development and be there too.

I wouldn't say it's him going for a need, as much as he sees a player slipping that they have a high value for.

The player who is slipping happens to be a player of need:

2016: Needed CB and traded up for Worley

2015: Needed OT & WR: traded up for Funchess and Williams

2014: Needed CB: Traded up for Bene

2013: Didn't have many picks to trade

If you're only interested in the Carolina write up:

6. Carolina Panthers

Salary Cap Space: $53,548,149 (10th)

Draft Pick Capital: Nine picks valued at 2,346.4 points (Eighth)

The Panthers saved a bunch of money against their cap last season by rescinding the franchise tag on cornerback Josh Norman, but the defense, which had to rely on young, inexperienced corners, took a big step back. This offseason, it’s looking like GM Dave Gettleman won’t be quite so tight with his purse strings, as he’s already re-signed pass rusher Mario Addison to a three-year, $22.5 million deal and placed the franchise tag ($14.7 million) on defensive tackle Kawann Short. Carolina’s sitting pretty in the draft, too, with nine total picks, including five in the first 115 spots.

That's kinda suprising. Gettleman seems to always find at least one blue chip starter in every draft he's done for us so far. He hasn't blown any single draft out of the water with a combo of picks all working out, he generally hits on either his first or second rounder (sometimes both). He never makes the sexy pick (with the exception of maybe Kelvin Benjamin) but he seems to always get 2-3 quality players every draft.

He's yet to have a draft with 3 or more high caliber players but getting into rounds 3-7 turns into a crapshoot usually so can't be too hard on  him for that.

A rank players he's drafted so far  :

2013 : Star and Short (both of the validate this entire draft two starter DTs in one year is unheard of )

2014 : KB , Trai Turner (well maybe KB is more of a B at this point). (Just good solid hits for what our team needed)

2015: Shaq

* Quality depth with Daryll Williams and David Mayo)

2016 : Bradberry

* Quality depth or solid Starter with Worely (Unclear atm)

* ?? with Vernon Butler . Need a bigger sample size + more playing time

2017 Possibly : Fournette + Legett or D. Barnett + D. Walker (kinda like double dip star and short in 2013)

That's a product of how their board is setup.

Gettleman has told us in the past, that he doesn't set his board up like the analysts do.

Player A, and player B, has a mid 1st round grades.

Player A is a QB. We have no need for a qb, so he removes player A from his board.

If both players are still there in the 2nd, why would he trade up for a player that he doesn't desire?

So in a way, yes it's a position of need/want/desire, but according to their board, its still BPA.

Yep......and then you'll be saying.....

man that's a lot of points for bradberry, KK and Shaq

I doubt it. It's going to take a great pick this year as well as other players developing.

    • That’s not a bad idea at all. I was really liking the whole cali-style carne asada. We might do that next week instead of enchiladas for the rams. Was planning on: Saints-Gumbo Tampa-Cuban Sandwiches Seattle- Salmon Stew Tampa- Seafood Boil
    • I agree, honestly you can not trade a player that has Balls talent. Just sitting in street clothes FOR years, it doesn't matter if you are averaging 50points on 88% with 18 rebs, 15 asst, 4 stls if you never can play. These are the worst type of players, teasers. Its HIS JOB to get his body in NBA shape and he has proven that he can not. Thus you break the rule about trading top shelf talent. Hell NBA need to have NFL contracts where the full sum isn't guaranteed, you bet your ass if his money was tied to his playing on the court he'd somehow figure out how to stay healthy.   Plus Im a old head, I member when Seth Curry in his 17(Jesus..) year career had ankle problems and guess what, he solved the issues and got all the money, championships, and fame. Ball doesn't have the same drive to figure out his body, he'd rather drive his car on kids feet while rushing home to drive his go-cart on the roof of his condo after missing his 42nd game of the season.....
