How Would You Feel About John Ross at #8?

Also, I find it interesting that a lot of people in the thread keep projecting him as a "slot guy."  Yes, he is smaller and shiftier, which is ideal for the slot, but to me, his build and athleticism remind me a lot of Smitty and he played a lot on the outside at UW.  And again, Mayock said he was a first round talent even before the combine...  so, I don't think he is a slot reciever, i think he has gamebreaking potential as a #1.

We're a physical, run first football team with issues protecting and getting after the QB.  We sucked after a 17-2 year to pick a WR?  No.

You would have a problem with picking an athletic specimen with amazing tape after last season, but did you have a problem with us shooting ourselves in the foot following '15 by unnecessarily rescinding the franchise tag from the market's top corner, then drafting nothing but defensive players in the first 3 rounds despite having those same issues you mentioned on the OL and needs for depth/talent infusion at RB and WR?  We've had the same issues for years, but "we use FA to set us up for the draft" and "we don't draft for need."  If those things are true,  then picking Ross with our first (even if that means trading back), might be the best move we could make.

With his speed and skill set he is a bonafide #1 receiver. He has the size to go over the middle and the speed to burn anyone in the league on the outside. He even got Smitty's approval.

For how well Ginn fits on this offense and the amount of people who want to sign Djax you'd think more people would be on the Ross train.

Heard comparisons of a more refined Brandin Cooks if that helps any.

So a guy that's been compared to Bo Jackson or a guy that's been compared to Brandin Cooks?  Tough one there.

guys let's draft more lumbering giants to slowly make their way 25 yards down the field and get the QB some time to hang out behind our terrific set of OTs, we need somebody who fits after all and what better way to do that than by adding more of the same.

More people would be if they didn't think it would break down. A first is too rich for my blood.

That's it. If he never had the numerous, and serious surgeries, this would be discussion. You don't take a player with that much injury history in the top 10. He's the same player you watched on tape. He didn't get faster today. Seriously, he hurt himself running the 40.

    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
