The WR Situation

I'll take Corey Davis in a trade back situation in the 1st.

After that, I have my heart set on Zay Jones or Taywan Taylor. Jones won me over at the Senior Bowl. Taylor had 10 catches for 103 yds at LSU in 2015 and 9 catches for 121 this year at Bama. Nuff said. Either one of them would be awesome to get.

I think we'll get a vet. You already know we're looking at Cruz. We'll also draft at least one receiver, as Gettleman already noted the deep slot receiver class

I think we'll try to get some faster guys, so Zay Jones, Chris Godwin, Taywan Taylor and Quincy Adeboyejo will likely be my in play in the mid rounds. We might look at Cooper Kupp who is slower.

I don't think any of the above go before the third unless it's Jones or Godwin.

First. Do not bring back Bersin and Brown, I will repeat this in every post concerning the offense or WR position. Team needs a slot WR that is quick, runs good routes, and has solid hands. I say look at Robert Woods or Victor Cruz in FA and then Ryan Switzer and Zay Jones in the draft.

I agree. We have said again and again that we are targeting a slot guy this off season, we even hired Cotchery with that in mind. Woods should be cheap and would improve the slot (IMO) over Bersin and Philly. I'm not so sure what Cruz has left or how much $ he'd want, and would be short term at best. I really hope we can get Switzer late in the 3rd, and I've read some really good stuff and seen some good film on Jones. Where is he projected to get drafted?

I'm not sure about Jones because he did well at the Senior Bowl and had a good combine. I say he would go in mid 2nd- early 4th round range.

I knew he had good hands, but after reading this, he might go sooner than later. Could be in play at 72.

    • Yeah one big factor has been he is surprisingly quite durable. But the reality of that aspect is much of it boils down to plain dumb luck more often than not. Big guys get hurt smaller guys get hurt it happens across the league to anyone to varying degrees. The issue is we are staring down the barrel of a possible top 10 QB salary and Bryce Young is one of the least physically gifted starters in the league. That is not a shot at him it is simply a rational acknowledgment of circumstances. There is a legitimate question to be asked if his window as a starter in this league is smaller as a result because what is going to happen when those hits that he has previously popped right back up from with a smile on his face begin to accumulate as they do for every player that has been in this league? These are just things to consider.
    • This game is a must-win for both teams I feel. For the Canes, you don’t want to go back to Vegas and put them in front of their home crowd with a chance to close out the series. For Vegas, if you drop this game your only chance is to win 2 straight and similarly have to contend with an energized Canes home crowd if you get to a game 7.
