Ealy > Butler

That is all you need to know.

The entire 2016 draft is going to be lucky to see the end of their rookie contracts. I expect the same people who defended Ealy will ride Butler for 3+ seasons as a future core player and complain he does not get enough playing time to prove it.

You are so terribly bad at this.

Too early to tell. At this very moment in time, he's been our worst first-round pick since Jeff Otah. However, when you consider the baller status most of our first rounders have, that's not a huge insult to him. I'm not ready to label him a bust just yet though, let's see how he steps up next year.

I was okay with the pick all things considered with KK's contract situation, but was hoping for a different direction honestly.

Calling him a bust is quite foolish. But let's not kid ourselves, he's going to have to make some serious noise in 2017 to justify that selection. But he has to get on the field first.

that's the beauty of the draft, cowboys bad luck with not being able to grab rice. But that also brings up the question, is Joe Montana the same qb without Walsh? Who knows great story

I think Montana just had the "it factor" and could have played in any era. That said, he and Bill Walsh were a match made in heaven. Montana was the perfect QB for the West Coast Offense.

Walsh was running a prototype of that system in Cincinnati in the 1970's with Ken Anderson. He just took it to San Francisco when he got the HC gig and took it to the next level. But, without the success he had with Montana, I wonder if the West Coast Offense would've became the dominant offensive scheme in the NFL. It's a copycat league. If the WCO had never taken off, today's NFL would be different.

Also look at what happened to Landry. The Cowboys began to stumble after the 81 and 82 title losses. If he has Montana does that happen? If the Cowboys had won a couple of titles in the 80's would Bum Bright have sold the team to Jerry Jones when he did.  Would Landry have coached longer and retired on his own terms? Without Jerry Jones, there is no hiring of Jimmy Johnson. No Herschel Walker trade which set the stage for the Cowboys dynasty of the early 90's. You would have definitely had a butterfly effect in terms of the impact on NFL history.

Makes me wonder how things would be today if just one GM had the foresight to draft Brady before the Patriots in the 6th round in 2000 (?)

People get hung up on the "starting 22".

Based on a 4-3-4 defense and 2wr, TE, FB, and RB you need to add:

3rd DT, 3rd DE, 3rd CB, 3rd WR and 2 TE

Those extra 5 guys receive considerable snaps.

Last year DT snaps were as such:

Star 703

Short 780

Love 224

Butler 225

Soliai 152

I would guess they would really like to get Star's and Short's snap counts down some.  If Butler is a productive player in that 400-500 snap range I would say he is worth it.

Great Point. It's always good if you have the ability to rotate guys in and out to keep them from wearing down...especially in today's pass happy league. I loved what the Giants were able to do under Coughlin during their Super Bowl era. They could rush 4, drop 7 and constantly harass the opposing QB since because they could constantly rotate the linemen w/out much of a drop off in terms of the pass rush.

The Cowboys were able to do that in the 90's when they had Charles Haley, Russel Maryland, Leon Lett, Jim Jeffcoat, Jimmie Jones, etc

Very true.  Almost any team can get pressure if they want, just depends at what expense.  Problem with the that is the type of QBs that you end up facing in the playoffs will make you pay if you blitz too much.
