Running Back Depth Chart

Every down back, and workhorse are two different things, I think he's shown he can play on each down. But in the NFL we're talking 15-20+ pound difference between defensive players in the front seven, and they're still every bit as fast.

So I'm just thinking out loud here, I don't see him as someone we can ride for a full game as the lead back, I think he can have a lot of success as a runner, but as a workhorse in the NFL I still just don't know.

He's 202 pounds at 20 years of age. I assume he will be roughly 210 pounds by the time the season starts. Again, Brian Westbrook was 203 pounds. Did the Eagles ride him? He's nominated for the Hall of Fame so I seen absolutely no reason we can't ride CMC.

I dunno, I can still see him being CAP or Whittaker cut to free up a position somewhere else, Tolbert's position was filled when he signed Darrel Young. And he's likely in competition with Johnson who's still PS eligible, so we are currently +1 in the HB department.

I see it as

Stewart

McCaffrey

CAP

DG had good praises about him, I see Fozz as the odd man out.

I agree. Plus we have scoot waiting in the wings as a scat back in case of injury. I think fozzy has shown enough to land somewhere.

If they grabbed D'Onta Foreman at the back end of the 2nd I'd be happy. Stewart is probably on the team one more season, let alone is injury prone and is almost guaranteed to miss games every season. A power back will become a priority.

Well Curtis Martin was 5'11" 210 pounds and he had a pretty good career running between the tackles and was a direct comparison from DG. I just think people have a mental block of what a 25 carry back looks like.

Per McCaffrey, he has tried to emulate Bush. I wasn't saying he couldn't, just saying I'm not sure. I don't even necessarily want him to. JStew benefited from sharing carries with DWill. Which gets back to the point of the thread, is there a chance we draft a larger, power back.

Why would you want McCaffery carrying the ball 400 times? No RB carries the ball 25 times a game anymore. 300 is a large load now. That said I'd rather 15 rushes and 5 receptions a game. That would utilize his talent more. Get him in space.

I don't, which is what I was trying to get at. I still think we should try to find a power back.

Do you guys think Gettleman will draft the future bell-cow back to replace Stewart

He will if the talent that he thinks can accomplish that feat is sitting there when we pick.

I don't think he feels a need to pick a second back though.  And I definitely don't think he'll trade away extra draft picks to move up for a second back.

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
