Does anyone know if Thomas Davis is a free agent next year?

I think from now on as long as fox is here we are going to plan on trading our first round pick for a second round pick...That is the way to win I tell yas

No matter what Jerry says Fox has been on the hot seat for two years now. This year is the put up or shut up year. I dont think we will can Hurney but Fox will go if we don't atleast put up a winning record. Coaches just dont trade away future picks if they are not feeling the heat.

if you wanted to play devil's advocate you could say that they don't need Davis with their ability to develop linebackers on the cheap. You could probably re-sign Anderson much cheaper. If we went 3-4, you have Beason, and then Diggs/Connor to fight for the other. Look at Derrick Johnson - he went into a 3-4 and got benched.

I'd prefer to keep Davis. He's a somewhat rare talent - he's that Brooks type linebacker but he hits. He's a complete player. But on a cap strapped team you could make that money do other things (Peppers argument is a separate thread, thanks).

For the person who asked about Williams, he's in two years. After '10.

Don't pin your hopes that a CBA won't be reached. If we have an uncapped year then we are screwed, Jerry is gonna load up along with other big market teams. But on the bright side Mr. Jones might just take the bait on Pep. Look at baseball: Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Angels and Phillies(5 of the 9 highest payrolls), one of these teams will win ANOTHER title. The great thing about the NFL is working with a cap, however the bad thing is the Panthers pretty much suck at it. We have pretty much screwed ourselves at QB and CB by overpaying players for cap relief. To sign our superstar Pepppers and he's laying down this year. These 2 contracts will haunt us for years and someone dares to mention Peppers? Most people diagnosed with cancer want to rid themselves of it and go through painful treatments to do so, well prepare yourselves for some pain. Bring on the pain Pep!

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
