The light rail needs to go in many directions to where people actually live.   This is a start.   Light rail down 74 to Union County would be a huge one.   Even to SC.   We need to stop roads and toll road ideas and do this, asap.

Especially when it doesn't save you any time.   The only time I rode the light rail was to a Panthers game from the pineville station.  It easily took twice as long than if I had just driven to the game plus it was miserable being packed in there like sardines on the way back.

How about a direct train ride from Greensboro to Charlotte no stops...does that exist? Google doesn't work in my world.

Light rail through South Park would be a nightmare, unless they somehow elevated it, which would look horrible and the South Parkies would never go for that. I LOVE the idea of more efficient public transportation, but I have a hard time buying into the light rail system in its current form. Having ridden it a good deal early on, I was always frustrated with the fact that by the time we picked up any speed, we were stopping again. It took forever to reach downtown. I can beat the train on my bike just by following the Rail Trail(which I think is the best thing to come out of all of this Light Rail spending).

This was supposed to happen but the republicans in NC axed it along with several other light rails. While I'm sure it would be useful for it to go to Ballantyne (not so much SP) I think there are other areas with more need like down 74 and up 77.

Makes more sense for it to go down Independence or Providence(lol never). Airport doesn't have enough people and uber kills that.

intermittently elevated and/or buried train down providence to downtown with a major terminal at 485 or 51 makes sense. So much congestion on that road and so many neighborhoods, apartments, and people right off of it.

Independence is probably more doable, especially since there is so much dying commercial real estate over there. It might be easier to purchase land and easements for track and stops.

This makes no sense, would also cost a fortune, and the residents would fight it tooth and nail. Other than that, it's a perfect idea.

Yeah at this point Independence is worthless, beat down buildings and just car lots.   They also destroyed a good bit of businesses with the widening.   Running the light rail down 74 makes WAY more sense than some stupid toll roads.    But they'd have to make it express, no stops from a Matthews/Indian trail station to uptown, else I'm not sure people would use it.
