That's one I thought of too. There isn't this huge line of players who became greats to warrant the reaction every time the Pats acquire a guy. If anything they at least used to have a rep for takung in aging greats and giving them a few more years on a great team.

belichick is very very good at identifying traits in players and putting them into a position to succeed. That is his strength as a coach.

Yeah it helps when you have the best QB in the game, but he and Brady together have developed like three completely distinct offense that have dominated the league at various times in their career and at this point it's safe to say they're the best duo ever.

This line about "turning players great" is ludicrous as this wes welker discussion shows, because someone with an axe to grind will just claim that the player was already great and belichick just got lucky again.

Belichick has coached for a long time, and his ratio of busts to successes is probably slightly above average, which in the nfl is pretty fuging great. He has a ton of bad blindspots; he has weird theories about DBs, he can't really draft RBs or WR with any frequency.

But time and time again he's proven he can see something in a player other teams don't and can capitalize on it. That's why they've been so successful.

I think he's clearly the best coach and it's not close. They still grab a lot of players that don't work out. Too many to jump to the watch player x become an (All Pro/ pro bowler/hall of famer) typical reaction. I'm not suggesting you do that...but it always gets said

Ealy may do fine under Belichick. Our locker room seems to thrive with self motivating players. That's more conducive to a "players coach" like Rivera. Belichick is probably better at getting more out of guys that need structure and discipline. There were questions about Ealy's attitude and work ethic early on. Maybe Bill's approach can get more out of a guy like that than Rivera can.
