I get the idea behind the Dave firing but...

JR saw DG as a problem because his style didn't mesh with how the Panthers operate. JR has always made carolina a second home to players and developed a culture that inspired players to stay. The down side to that was giving out poor contracts to keep aging icons. Dave was the boogie man so to speak. He made the hard decision and allowed Rivera and JR to coddle players. When Dave went for his next hard decision it would not stand with JR. This was so anti JR that he had to make a move. The down side to this is that we now have no one to be the bad guy and players will have no fear. With JR firing Dave he came out and said do what you want. If the staff crosses you I will fire them. Get use to the fact in the near future we will once again see players on the side line smiling while we go 6-10. This is the culture that has risen once again.

Depends, what future we have. Most fans are not going to be happy about going back to the Hurney era.

Its a lazy assumption to assume thats where we are heading but not out of the realm of possibility. I would like to think the organization has grown from that but with an aging owner, one that sounds like he wants a yes man, it may be a tough job to fill with a quality GM.

Take this job and you're working to manage players while stuck between a coach and an owner who are both known to take their side, even to extreme levels.

Would you want that job?

really? if it's true, the players made a power play and won. mediocre play for a contract.

How is it lazy? What is Jr's goals? If they were to win a SB why fire the guy that had the best record of any GM we have had? I mean I love Davis but when you slow down teams move on and that's football.

Yea if it was an offer i didnt deserve or was ready for yet but not if I knew what I was doing and had a long term plan and could separate business from some family environment. This isnt a paper company or anything, it's ever-changing business where people's careers are short and your customers are very impatient people that have short-sided views and expectations.

I'd be very disappointed to learn that the players had a proactive role in the decision and that JR didn't just decide to pull the trigger himself, particularly if they took it to JR directly.

And this is why there is a high probability Hurney returns. He knows the job even though he was bad at it.
