If we cut Oher & Dickson that will free up decent amount around 5-7 million?

Yea, I honestly expect Oher to be given an injury settlement, so I assume that will free up some space. Dickson needs to be cut, and he'd save us a few million I believe

If you think paying a 34 year old LB $7 million a year is logical

let me educate you on how NFL contracts work.  Just because it says "21 million" doesn't mean that the player is guaranteed that amount.  This isn't the NBA.  And besides...if anyone has earned it, it's Thomas Davis.  Hell he should have a lifetime job with this organization.

Finally...something realistic.

Which will then pretty much have us saying "bu-bye Shaq Thompson" by the time his rookie deal expires, and looking at seeing Turner, Norwell, or Star gone for sure.

David Harris was just signed for 2 yrs $5 million and you guys want to give TD $7 a year, classic example why this team will remain in mediocrity

That is the exact amount I was thinking about. I wouldn't spend more than $3m a yr for TD and honestly would prefer $2m.

Isn't Shaq starting this year with davis and Luke?  With shaq taking over nickel duties as well?  This is year 3 for Shaq.  Not sure why we can't keep all 3 for two more seasons and then cut Davis loose.  That gives Davis an additional year with shaq on his 5th year option.  Davis retires at 36 and Shaq signs his long term deal.

A two year deal extension for TD would be ideal. I want to see Shaq Thompson get more playing time, and I want TD to be there to mentor him through it, not hinder him.

Olsen I would say a two year extension AFTER this season is fair, somewhere around his worth.

I want to see us prioritize Trai Turner before anyone else, then go to TD for this year. After that, prioritize Norwell next year, then work out Olsen and Star and see what happens.

Of course, that was likely what Gettleman was thinking as well.

But now, looks like we're going to prioritize signing aging vets instead of our young talent. Pathetic.

Shaq Thompson was awful at nickel last year. When they switched him to actual LB duties, he did amazing. That should remain that way, and let Elder/Munnerlyn split nickel duties.

A big reason DG was let go was due to JR not liking the fact TD was splitting time with Shaq. That tells me a lot about where this franchise is going.

Ahh the 'earned it' excuse.... Where you're paying on past performances knowing that the expected future production is no where near the compensation you just paid for.

It's this rationale that will have this franchise wallowing in mediocrity

While teams who are always in contention don't play the sentiment card, it's business. But please continue with your educating

You are insane if you are comparing David Harris to Davis.  The locker impact Davis has cannot be compared to what's Harris brings.  And I'm sorry but we are only talking about adding 1 additional year here so Davis doesn't enter this season as his last.  Give him a new 3 year deal (2 year extension) with front loaded money and then let him retire after two seasons, at age 36, when Shaqs fifth year option is up.  Then let Shaq take over.

Hell, James Harrison is 38 and making good money still.  And the leadership he brings is a big reason why.

I really like you dude, and appreciate the hell out of all your posts.  But I'm curious why everyone keeps saying that it is now clear that we are prioritizing aging vets over young talent. Where in the hell did this breaking news come from?  Because of a rumor that Davis himself denied!  We have no clue what contract discussions are taking place.  For all we know Turner and Norwell and Star have already been given offers.  The Panthers are always quiet when it comes to these things.  We locked up Short already, who is our youngest star on the team that needed a new contract.  Olsen is a top 3 TE in the NFL, so I'd consider that a no brainer.  You can argue all you want about Davis, but again we have no clue what he was offered or if offers have been extended to others.

You're not doing yourself any favors on your $7 mill per year argument, look at the James Harrison contract.

David Harris is a TD clone, talented LB, multiple pro bowls and was Mr. Jet, he was let go for the betterment of business

And Harrison is 4 years older.  Do I think Davis gets 7 million?  Not even close.  I'd say 4 million.  I made a post about 7 million being realistic compared to the other posters doing nothing but making stupid jokes about Hurneys contracts.  I'd be mad with a 7 million contract.  But it also would outright Shock me.  And that figure was the first somewhat realistic post in this thread which got derailed quickly.

Go look at the Snap counts Shaq was splitting it with Klein, now that he is gone Shaq will be on the field a lot more.
