You'd have to possess little to no brain cells to pretend not to know what transpired. Unless Gettleman was running an underground sex slave operation or killing his neighbors, there was no precedent for firing him a week out before training camp. Something that's never been done in NFL history. So, yeah, it was a knee jerk reaction from Richardson. To claim otherwise is laughable.

No smart or savvy owner decides to throw out his president, general manager, and scouting director in the same off season a year removed from the goddamn Superbowl. Call it whatever the fug you want but hiring Hurney was all that we needed to confirm about what Richardson preferred.

There you go again. When you have nothing to add of consequence and someone calls you out on your ranting and hysterics you use insults. Again give me one article that confirms and validates anything you just said. I would say that for JR to act this rash this close to the season, he must have had one heck of a reason. JR can be a lot of things but stupid and insane he is not. The question you should be asking is what did Gettleman do to so enrage JR that he thought he thought he had to act immediately and make big changes this close to the season.  It had to involve a power play about who was calling the shots.

That ship sailed when the Panthers started exhibiting signs of instability. You can continue to cite everything is fine but we're a joke. We've blown up our front office and re-hired the guy who placed us in cap hell and having a handful of stars but no depth anywhere.

Some of you in here are either severely delusional or just in complete denial about what's coming next.

No, you're just a blind homer. That's not an insult. That's the reality. If you need to be told what to think on a baseless article that likely was influenced by the organization to form an opinion then... enjoy being in denial.

Those of us who can put two and two together don't need to wait for a press conference or an interview from Richardson explaining himself. It's really that simple.

JR doesn't care about the media or he would be front and center now telling us the real deal instead of  all this speculation and finger pointing. If by blind homer you mean I wait for facts or some clear inference before forming my opinion and tend to give the Panthers players and staff the benefit of the doubt, then guilty as charged.

You assume for example that I am happy Gettleman got fired and you would be totally wrong. I liked Gettleman and thought until 2016 he did a good job. I am sad he went and have significant trepidation about Hurney and where all of this is going. But until I have true reason to complain I am going to take a wait and see approach. I would think everyone should do the same. There will be plenty of time to bitch and whine down the road. It is July. Let's see what happens and enjoy training camp. I think this is going to be a special year on the field. Everyone is all in....

I don't know man, I'm staring to think JR has lost it too. This stuff just don't add up. I will never understand how a rational thinking human could bring back the GM that was fired due to running the cap into the ground. Marty never was and never will be a good choice for GM.

Or are you going to defend Shula's incompetence for the 1,000,000th time?

It's not paranoia. The Browns and 49ers blew up their front offices too on knee jerk reactions. Guess where they're at?

Oh, but don't you realize all is well in Jerry land ? Lol. For some reason some fans can't see the forest for the trees. This team is not "loaded" like I keep seeing some post.  We have no idea how the rookies will perform in the NFL. The Falcons, Packers, Cowboys, Seahawks are all going to be tough. I agree, the front office wreck will carry over to the team, it always does.

Bringing Marty back was a stop gap measure because Richardson had to have someone and who else would want to take on all the hassle of being a GM without the safety of permanent status and being given the time to turn things the way you want them. Richardson felt he had to make the move obviously. Richardson doesn't just fire folks at a whim. In fact he is accused of being overly loyal. So why fire Dave. You know Gettleman. Big Ego and loves to bluster. He must have told Richardson his plan and when Richardson disagreed Gettleman said my way or the highway and he was shown the door. What else makes sense?

Nothing makes sense anymore when it comes to this franchise. Danny Morrison must have know something was up and took off for greener pastures.  I honestly think there is something really afoul.  I do agree that this was a way to appease the players and a stopgap....it was still a huge mistake.

RR a year after Super Bowl 50 questions: I feel lighter. I feel like I don’t have that weight on my shoulders.

I'm sorry but jesus fugging christos.
This is the fugging NFL. Imagine Bill Belichick saying some poo like this. We're fugging doomed to mediocrity every other year, as if we didn't already know that.

Exactly. As a damn competitor you should crave to have the weight of consistent success on your shoulders. You should want to fight that uphill battle every fuging year.

RR's quote pisses me off every time I read it.

It's no wonder last season was a complete disaster.

Have you seen Bill Belichick's press conferences / statements? He wouldn't say anything. Ron's downfall to the fans is that he is too honest with his comments. People hated it when Fox pulled a Belichick, but he was good at it.

Again, I'll let you grieve.  I know what it's like to have an executive unceremoniously dismiss your hero from your favorite team at the expense of winning just to make a statement.   So sorry, I'm unmoved...  but, time heals all wounds lol.  I remember telling people we would lose games, especially one to the Ravens, when we released Smitty, and the Gettleman-first crowd pretended "everything was fine."  I remember saying the same thing when we released Norman, and the milquetoast, status quo-loving crowd kept preaching patience, because Gettleman was a mastermind...  We went 6-10.  So, if you end up being right, congrats.  It sucks, but at least you were right...  I know how it feels.  We'll be alright.

The manner in which he conducts press conferences is easily the least of my concerns with Rivera.
