Cam Newton Deep Pass To Russell Shepard

One guy people sleep on is Russell Shepard. I already said his film shows a very good route-runner with a lot of potential. He's at minimum a decent upgrade over Philly Brown.

Here he is on the deep pass. Cam Newton throws a beauty:

He has a legitimate shot of making an impact this season. Keep your eyes peeled on this guy.

Last year if someone was to try to compare Russell Shepard to Philly Brown at this time they would have been run off this board. Now he is far superioir without ever taking a real snap with this team.

Don't get me wrong, I think he has a good chance of fitting in nicely with this team.

You do good work Saca with your analysis but a little more objectivity would be good. At least cut back on words like elite and far superioir all the time. It would go a long way your legitimacy. Keep doing you though, just some constructive criticism.

He's too big of a homer, he makes excuses for poo players like Worley & Funchess.

Funchess is give or take. I see his potential, but I can see why he may not do well.

Worley is proven. Anyone who watches his film sees that.

You're the only one here who thinks Worley sucks and Funchess is only in his third season so the jury is still out on him. As for Sheppard, he is definitely an up and coming player and the Tampa fans hated losing him. Those guys tend to do well in this offense, regardless of how much you hate Shula.

Adams  was a little late helping on that play, but that could also be Cam doing a good job of looking him off. You can see him looking to his left before he threw it to the right. Nice job by him and Sheppard.

Yeah that was on Adams. Safety is responsible on all deep routes between the numbers.

Not only that, it's the first day of camp and not one player has pads on.

Enthusiasm is nice, but this is a long and dynamic process.

Actually plenty of people on here think Worley sucks. Not agreeing with them, just pointing that out. Some objectivity is needed in Saca's posts though as they all seem to be ridiculously positive lately. Which is fine but let's actually see some padded practices and some preseason film before we name a guy a starter

You haven't seen my TD or Matt Kalil posts lately?

I barely said a positive word about anything I saw from Kalil.

    • Right and I think we can have a conversation about that. But even with the scheme he should still be able to muster more than 1.5 sacks right? I mean DJ Johnson played in Evero's scheme too but that didn't stop us from calling him a bust. Scourton didn't seem to have trouble flashing. There can be different things true at one time.
    • I assume you are quoting my still. If so, I don't know what your argument is since mine was simply showing a play where Bryce scored a TD against the Rams in the playoffs where another poster used a similar still of Herbert's line to defend his poor performance last night. Like I said, Herbert is a better QB but Bryce wins the game last night for the Chargers. It simply is something he does better than Herbert and would play to his strengths. Someone even said earlier Chargers only win 1 or 2 games this year if Bryce was their QB which is so absurdly laughable it wasn't even worth trying to address. I mean this thread is literally called "Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panther's History" so I understand there is no objective arguments to be had here but I found that amusing.
    • I think his knee would make a good reason to switch to guard IF he returns.  Half don't.  Half of those don't last too long.  The strain on a knee (320lb man) vs speed rushers is more substantial.  So I would keep him if I could on a small contract (he will make $17.5 in 2026 fully guaranteed) and think of him as a possible guard for the post Lewis/Hunt era.  Knee injuries in big men are not invitations to invest in them.
