Who should get the next statue - TD or 89 ?

Lol in what world is Thomas Davis a Moreno important figure to this franchise than a player who is the best player in franchise history? The same player who won a triple crown and was the best offensive player in the league for a season.

I think Steve Smith is a child who could not have handled his release worse. The way he is acting towards both a franchise and fan base who supported him even after he punched two teammates in the face, demanded a trade, and refused to not throw younger WR under the bus is nothing short of inexcusable.

With all that said, he is 100 percent more important to this franchise than Thomas Davis. It honesty isn't even close.

The truth is you are wrong.

It's not close.  TD by a mile.  Stats only tell part of the story, and only in a sterile, trite way.  Ring of Honor is one thing.  We're talking about a statue to be set along side Jerry Richardson, Mike McCormack, and Sam Mills.  Steve wouldn't even be in consideration IMO.

TD has meant more to the Panthers than 89 has.

Who cares what the rest of the NFL thinks about them?

Depends on what we're talking about, in spirit maybe. And I have ties to TD so I love the man, but for years Steve Smith was the only reason the panthers were even talked about.

Smitty admitted to loafing and stat padding the last several years he was here. He is a selfish person who is an asshole to everyone he comes in contact with. To me, he doesn't deserve a statue in the bathroom.

You ever met Smitty? Definitely wasn't an asshole to me when I met him.

I thought the one requirement was that you had to be a Panther for your entire career.  If so TD qualifies and Steve doesn't.

have you ever heard of Sam Mills? it does mean you have to be a lifer. it means you were a great man and player. which TD is

neither.

I think 10 years from now....someone eclipses them both in terms of careers here.  Cam has a chance. Luke has a chance.   My money is on after another 5  years from now, one of them leapfrogs both in the statue pecking order line.

so in 5 years from now, when people talk about the GOAT in Carolina.  It will no longer be 89, Peppers, TD, etc debated.  It will be one of those 2 mentioned first.

Cam Newton will never be a top 5 QB all time, Kuechly possibly could be considered a top 5 MLB depending on what he does in the coming years.

Peppers is a top 5 DE, probably top 3.

1. Reggie White

2. Bruce Smith

3. Julius Peppers

4. Deacon Jones

5. Jason Taylor

Lot's of other greats but these are top 5 imo.

I am talking Carolina Panther GOAT.  Give Luke or Cam 5 more years?  No telling what they can do. You telling me their careers can't be better here than 89's or TDs?

6 years into a career....only 1 QB in NFL history has more TDs than Cam Newton.   He already has rewritten the NFL record book.   Was NFL ROY, was NFL MVP, and already has a Super Bowl appearance.....and now imagine 5 more good years to THAT?  How does 89 have a better Panther career with 5 good years and whatever they may bring added on?

Now do the same things with Luke.  Add 5 more good years...and how does he not have a better Carolina resume?

I mean say Luke and Cam when a Super Bowl?

5 years from now, 89 wouldn't be on the GOAT in Panther land in that scenario IMO.

Can't predict to the future, put Cam and Luke are on pace to be the 2 greatest Panthers IMO.  So unless a statue is going up in the next 5 years, I'd put my money on one of them emerging at the head of the statue line.

These obligatory "get him a statue!" debates among this fanbase are honestly cringy and desperate if you want to be totally honest. First of all when it boils down to it, this is really a pointless gesture on the whole, unless it's a situation like Sam Mills for example. Then we have fans just trashing one player over another, and it inevitably turns into yet another in the laundry list of huddle threads bashing current of former players for the sake of arguing.

Besides, a significant portion of the huddle (some of which are long time members) just spent days dragging TD through the mud, so you'll have to forgive me if I refuse to lend any credence to these same individuals "opinions" now.

I was referring to the current greatest Panther, Peppers. Not Smith or TD.

Peppers loses points with me on the Panther GOAT list because he left.  But to date, he has the best career of anyone we ever drafted.

I still think those 2 have a shot of besting his career.

Peppers will now only add to this...

Panthers franchise recordsEdit

  • Most career sacks: (81)
  • Most career forced fumbles: (30)
  • Longest Interception return: 97 yards (against the Denver Broncos on 10/10/04)

He's made 5 Pro Bowls as a member of the Panthers, 4 total all-pro teams counting first and second team.

Defensive Rookie of the Year and numerous other awards.

Luke only been here 5 years...vs 15 in the NFL for Pep.

and logged 4 Pro Bowls, 3 first team All Pros (same as Pep achieved in his career), a DPOY (Pep never achieved), and DROY.

Luke is on a much more impressive pace.  That ain't a knock on Pep.
