Phillip Dorsett available for a late round pick or equivalent

Dorsett wasn't worth a 1st but it doesn't look like Funchess was worth a 2nd either. At the NFL level you need starting wide receivers who can consistently beat 1 on 1 coverage. It's even more pronounced bc teams give those guys a lot of 1 on 1 bc they have to focus on and account for Cam in the run game.

We don't need a combo of OBJ and Julio out there to win but we do need better separation than what KB and Funchess are getting collectively.

Again, I just don't think they are complimentary players. KB's size offsets his lack of separation. KB is a starting WR, Funchess is not. Funchess could be a decent backup to KB, but not starting across from him. Other than near the goal line, I don't think having both of them on the outside makes sense.

I have no idea if Dorsett could be a answer. I feel quite confident Funchess is not.

In 2 years, Funchess and Dorsett have produced the following:

Fuchess - 54 receptions, 15.6 yards per reception, 9 TDs

Dorsett - 51 receptions, 14.8 yards per reception, 3 TDs

In those 2 years, their QB have attempted this many passes:

Carolina - 1063

Indianapolis - 1203 passes

So... on a team that threw the ball MORE, Dorsett produced LESS than Funchess.

And for a guy who is a "speed guy", he also produces LESS per reception and scores LESS.

Honestly, some of you guys haven't got a lick of sense.

Is that seriously your logic? Indy threw ball more Dorsett should have more rec/yards?

How about Dorsett caught 33 of 59 targets (55.9%) for 528 yards and Funchess caught 23 of 58 (39.7%) 371 yards in 2016 both played in 15 games.

Two guys with essentially the same amount of targets but one guys with 157 yards more. Funchess had more TD's but Dorsett brings speed. Like Ginn, regardless of wtf he does you must account for him because he can get downfield, which is what we lack

And yes I realize we won't trade for Dorsett but this whole Funchess thing just isn't working so it's time to try something else. If Dorsett, cool! If someone else, cool too

Dorsett has missed more games due to injury, last year he had nagging injuries which limited his snaps. Yet their numbers are quite similar

Also Andrew Luck has missed more games than Cam, so you can also factor that in.

Dorsett also had legit competition to beat out, Funchess couldn't even beat out Cotchery or Philly Btown.

I don't care one way or another, because at worst he'd just be more par for the course, but for all you guys talking up Dorsett, here is what his coach, Chuck Pagano, said earlier this year:

"We know how fast Phil is. It's got to translate to the field now. From a football standpoint, football IQ and being able to learn the game, go play fast, go make plays, (2017 is) going to be huge."

Perhaps the grass is greener on the other side, unless it's not. But changes of scenery do help sometimes, just not most of the time when you're dealing with guys who just mentally don't understand the concepts.

Ahhhhhhh, I see.

The only year that should count is the year that Carolina was a total cluster-f*** and not the entirety of their work in TWO years.

Interesting.

Oh, the irony...

Funchess is beginning to look more and more like a head scratcher for us being that we already had Benjamin. Dorsett was a straight-up luxury pick by the Colts since they already had Hilton.

So you want to trade the big mini bust for the mini big bust?

LOL

I'm just being funny.  :tongue::)

    • Doubling tripling and quadrupling down on this subject in defense of the pick is reminiscent of a certain mindset that has overtaken the political world. This conversation will become less contentious and dragged out to the point of becoming a dead beaten horse if rational minds can simply agree that we made a mistake missed on a potential franchise center and we will learn from it. All this coping is unnecessary.
    • Here in lies the rub that the supporting posters continue to ignore. He wasn’t a 2nd round pick in the 2025 class, especially with an ACL tear. It was a dumb pick for any GM who looks ahead to determine values. C and CB were much better values than an injured RB in 2024. If a RB isn’t even playing much in 2024, you have to compare him to 2025. We’re beating a dead horse but only because the defense of the pick is almost comical at this point. We’ve made a ton of poo picks and moves/non trades while Morgan was GM and the assistant GM. It happens, we don’t have to jump through hoops to act like we just had some really bad luck. The 2025 draft class is unknown so far but damn it felt way better afterwards for the first time in a long time. Embrace the potential and stop stamping guaranteed on the box of poo of the 2018-2024 drafts. We are were we aware because of them and 2025 has to hit so we can get past the 7 win max in 7 year hurdle. Also, “flashed his talent” isn’t 9 carries for 22 yards. His one reception for 18 yards isn’t a flash with 11 other touches for 27 yards. He hasn’t proven anything. We have no idea if he’ll contribute in 2026.
    • Oh for those tired of the Mannings I have bad news, Peytons son Marshal already has college teams after him and he isn't even in HS until this fall...   I'd wager we have two Mannings in the NFL in 2030
