Better rookie season for Christian McCaffrey or Leonard Fournette?

In today's NFL, CMC is by far and away the more complete back.

Fixed and agreed...the direction the league is going, an RB has to be able to play more roles. Fournette may be a better RB in the classic and old school sense, but mcaffery just brings more to the table. That's just the way it is.

Looking at this draft class, it was stacked with RB talent. However each one has a drawback for winning OROY.

McCaffery's? Shula.

Fournette's? That OL... and QB.

Kamara? Himself.

Mixon? Buried in the depth chart.

Cook? OL and injuries.

In addition, signs are pointing up for Mahomes and Watson. Those guys have that IT factor. If any of those two break out, they'll win automatically. QB > RB or WR. It's just the way it is in the NFL.

Kamara>CMC

Savage was just announced the starter, and Mahomes won't start this year barring injury or a total collapse of the team.

Wait until he puts the ball on the ground a few times then tell us what you think.

He's been a chronic fumbler in the past. It's unlikely that will change in the NFL.

If he does, that will certainly change things, however, he's behind 2 other backs. Fumbling will not be tolerated.

Reggie was the second best back on his team at USC

This is crazy talk. Reggie was ridiculous in college. One of the best college players I've ever watched. He toyed with defenders.

The problem with Reggie, in the NFL, was that he lacked vision and patience. He was done an injustice by his lower level coaches. He was never forced to work on his skills as an actual runner. He was just allowed to run around people, because he could. The problem with that in the NFL is LBs and DEs run like some college corners.

CMC seems to have a higher ceiling and floor, because he doesn't lack those things. He's a much better pure RB than Reggie was coming out. However, that doesn't take away from Reggies ridiculousness in college.

Bingo. Once a fumbler, always a fumbler. Plus, his vision blows.

The worst you could say is his vision is inconsistent. It doesn't blow. He's not CMC, but he's not Richardson.

It depends. Bush was one of the greatest college players EVER but White I'm the end made the greater impact in the pros because of his power and size.

This is pure crazy talk. White played all of 4 seasons in the NFL. He had all of 2,500 yards from scrimmage. Reggie, for the poo he gets, had a good career. 10,000 yards from scrimmage. At no point in time has White ever been the better player.

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
