  1. 1. Panthers finish 10-6, but just miss the playoffs. What do you do with the coaching staff?

Trade Cam to San Diego for Rivers and their 2018 first rounder.

If you were the GM of another team, is this a deal you'd make? I honestly don't think I'd be giving up a player and a first for Cam right now.

If he turns it around this year, maybe. But he hasn't really shown much since 1/24/16 to make another team want to give up much for him.

Cam is very young and has tons of charisma.  The chargers don't really care about winning anyway - just selling tickets.  He could help fill that stadium.

Rivers is old - probably only plays 2-3 years for the Panthers, but the first rounder allows us to draft his replacement.  Rivers is very efficient.

Just don't think we agree. Owners might not care about winning games, but the guys who make these deals sure do. Cam isn't going to sell any tickets if he keeps playing the way he's playing.

We have Ron. I proposed Trestman as OC....

...keeping with the Bears theme, would anyone want Lovie as an HC? Got booted from chicago after a 10 win season. Didn't get too much of a chance in Tampa after showing improvment year over year.

He runs Tampa 2 so we are good there. Maybe keeps on Wilks?

I don't know who else might be out there but I'd rather have Lovie than Ron.

Edit: Ah fug, who am I kidding. We got Hurney back; let's just bring Fox back and run this whole ship into the ground.

Dorsey would have to go, only way i fire rivera an co is if a guy like harbaugh is willing to take the job, would rather have rivera then a unknown. Too many issues with cam's footwork and touch passes. whoever is causing the clock issues also should have already been on the hot seat but for now i tell rivera it needs to be fix asap.

1st thing first, I'm trading up in the 2018 draft to grab blue-chip ot if available, should have been done seasons ago. Unfortunately with kalil's contract, looks like we're on the hook for a couple seasons, so a not so popular option would to see how he fits at guard, if he fits well we would be able to move on from norwell from the time being(barring he signs a good deal that's both good for us and him, which is highly possible).

Watkins is probably the only fa i'd try and go get in fa's, highly highly doubt LAR let him see free agency to begin with, this is of course barring our current group doesn't perform well. secondary option Would be to take a strong look at Lawrence for the cowboys, another highly doubtful possibility, third priority would go to looking at vontae davis . There are a lot of B+ wr to be Fa's as well, good chance to remedy that need next offseason.

draft wise remains the same, barring the first pick(used for an ot), BPA at our top 3-4 positions of need, which currently looks like CB,S,DE. Of course depending on how free agency would go, Not a "get cam weapons draft" but i'm a firm believer the ultimate weapon for cam is a good offensive line

how dare you put Wilks in the same option with Shula "Fire OC and/or DC"

i'm appalled

I realize he's only been our DC for a few games but why is everyone so high on Wilks? I get he carries himself like Denzel Washington but Ive seen nothing different than our defense under McD. Same soft zone coverage with the generic double A gap blitz and occasional corner blitz.

Ugh. I think I need to log off for a while...

It's funny 'cause it's true...  You were more fun when you were optimistic about stuff.

So Fox gets here, digs us out of a 1-15 hole, Super Bowl in two years, a near-dominant look in 2005, then a slow spiral down the toilet bowl of mediocrity with a mild spike in 2008.  Rivera gets here, initially disappoints, disappoints more, gets the GM fired, then wins three straight NFCS titles and two COTY awards, and now looks like 2006-onward Fox.  You sense a theme here?

I think the best formula is to hire these guys and not let them touch the offense.  Fox went south with the departure of Henning, and now Rivera looks lost because he's tied himself to Shula.

I was pretty optimistic before the GM firing. With the return of Hurney, what I had left went straight into the toilet.

As for the coaching, personally I'm no longer content to have a defensive guy and hope he gets a good OC. I want to know if fence if head coach.

We both know that's not going to happen, but if I had my way that would be it.

I agree. We've tried the defensive-minded HC a few times. Let's try something else for a change.

Defensive coaches are all we've ever had, per the edict of Richardson. That's the philosophy he believes in.

There was word that we interviewed Spurrier back when he decided to go pro, and it went horribly. If we've interviewed an offensive head coach prospect since then, I don't remember it.

Oh, well aware. And it's way past time to try something different. I'd target former OCs who are also one-time former head coaches. Second-time-around guys tend to do alright in this league.

Current OCs who have been head coaches once before:

Josh McDaniels, Todd Haley, Rob Chudzinski, Mike McCoy, Scott Linehan, and Pat Schurmar.

Just my opinion, but this would be a good place to start. Especially McDaniels and Haley.
