Gonna be just splendid to have a $20M dead money cap hit for Matt next year if he gets cut. Thanks Gettleman. Hurney is the undisputed champ for volume but as far as the single worst contract in team history, this ranks up there with Sean Gilbert.

I think we are a long way from making the decision to cut him at the end of the season.  Do you really think 3 games is long enough to determine he has no value?  At a minimum he will be here 2 years, then there will be a dead cap hit of 7.2m.  If Moton is better next year, he will start and Kalil will back up.

Besides, I learned from the huddle that there is always plenty of money to sign whoever we want and retain everyone we want anyway.  The salary cap does not exist for us.

I doubt it, Kalil is going to be one of the better LT for Panthers since Gross.

He will really need to turn it around.  New GM wanting contracts his ways, and a couple key core guys coming up with Olsen, Norwell, and Star.  Think Moton will be the guy going forward.  And I think he has the potential to be the best OT we've had since Gross

I guess you are technically correct since the list of Panthers LTs since Jordan Gross is Byron Bell, Michael Oher and Mike Remmers. That's not a great accomplishment.

You mean 11.5 cap hit?  After 2018 is just a option.  25 was guaranteed (this year's salary of 13.15 mil)  leaving only his 11.85 left we owe him.

It was actually a good deal.  You didn't go see what others paid OTs this year clearly.  Chargers paid Okung who was one of the league's worst OTs last year up there with Remmers 4 years 53 mil 26 guaranteed.

Our Kalil 5 years 55 mil 25 guaranteed doesn't look so bad

Everything I've ever read about his contract suggests the $10M option bonus due next year is fully guaranteed. I'd be thrilled to find out otherwise.

He is also only getting a $1M salary this year. The other $12M is from his signing bonus which gets prorated over 5 years so only $2.4M of that has been accounted for on the cap and $3.4M total when you include his salary.

Maybe I'm just reading this wrong then

Said he got 13 guaranteed at signing but doesn't show anything about him only getting paid 1mil this year

His salary is $1M. He got $13M total this year but $12M of that is signing bonus which is accounted for on the salary cap differently than base salary. For cap purposes signing bonuses get prorated over the life of the contract or 5 years, whichever is less. So he gets paid $13M but his cap hit for 2017 is only $3.4M($1M base salary + $12M/5)

If you make Matt a post June 1st cut AFTER next season it's "manageable" I suppose, take the savings and run.

Ryan is as good as gone, 7.5 mill in savings if cut after this year
